Product Description

A Jayne Ann Krentz Classic. Now in eBook.

Sam Hatchard has his eye on building a business empire and Benedict Fasteners is going to be the cornerstone. But after talking his way into the CEO job, he realizes there is one small problem with his plan--old man Benedict wants to keep the business in the family and Hatch isn't family. But problems like this don't have to stand in the way of a good plan. With Benedict's blessing, Hatch is going to marry his way into the family.

Jessie Benedict knew the engagement was a bad idea. Hatch is brilliant when it comes to business but he doesn't want her, he wants her inheritance. She just needs a way to break the engagement without breaking her father's heart. Plus, after years of job-hopping, she has finally discovered her calling--at a psychic detective agency! When a case forces her to work with Hatch, Jessie soon discovers that his passion extends beyond the boardroom. Things are about to get complicated.

This book is fantastic and whether you're a fan of jayne ann krentz or not, you will be sucked straight into this emotional rollercoaster. Jessie is a sweet yet tough cookie, whereas Hatch, though he seems impenetrably cold, is incredibly vulnerable. It is these characteristics that builds a great chemistry between both leads and makes you truely believe that they are meant for each other. Add some adventure and some witty comments, (especially by jessie!), and you have a good day's worth of reading. GO BUY IT NOW!!!!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars another Jak quirky gem! 21 Feb 2003
By Deborah MacGillivray HALL OF FAME VINE VOICE
Jessie Benedict lived her childhood with a workaholic father that was never there. Oh, she was grandly provided for, but he always missed recitals, was never there for the school fairs. This shows as well in the man's two failed marriages, the ex-wives known affectionately as "the Moms" by Jessie and her half-sister. But there is a wolf on the prowl, one Jessie underestimates - Hatchard, her fathers right hand man, as far as Jessie is concerned,is a chip off the old block, so to speak. Another drive workaholic bent on filling her fathers shoes in business. He wants Vincent's business, but he might want his daughter more, but Jessie is far from convinced and is fighting the families assumption two will marry. Even "the Moms" assume this will happen.
Jessie spent her girlhood being disappointed and hiding that hurt, so she is determined her Father not do the same to her young half-sister, but she is more determined NOT to marry a man just like dear old Dad. Oh, she is wildly attracted to Hatch, but she fears her life would end with another series of being second place to the business that her father build. And she is quite set that history not repeat itself, not for her little sister, nor for her in marriage.
Being rebellious against her father, she has failed to turn out to be a business person and currently is determined to become a private investigator, by helping an old lady who is a psychic and rescuing a teenage girl from a dangerous cult. Much to her surprise, Hatch shows signs of being just a shade different than daddy.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not one of her best. 16 Aug 2014

I love Jayne Ann Krentz, have read her novels for years. But Sweet Fortune is predictable from page one and Jessie, unusually for Krentz, a really irritating character. That One May Smile, by Valerie Keogh has a much better storyline, kept me guessing, no predictability here. Hopefully Krentz will get her mojo back for her next novel.

5.0 out of 5 stars An entertaining read! 3 Mar 2011
This was the first book that I have read by Jayne Ann Krentz and I have to admit I wasn't disappointed. This is a gem of a novel, there is something for everyone. Obviously there's a love story but there are moments of levity, mystery, drama and action! Krentz has developed her characters in such a way that there is nothing left to do but to imerse yourself into the world that she has created and to just feel their emotions as the story progresses.
Yes, Hatch is the typical good guy who is willing to do whatever the Jessie wants but we learn that there is a reason behind it and of course love does play a big part. Jessie is initially not receptive to being the subject of Hatch's attention but she eventually learns that he isn't who she thinks he is and that he is someone who she can trust and lean on without being clingy. There is also a great sense of family dynamic which I think pulls the novel together.
The mystery and action parts of the story also move the story along in an unexpected way and I was hooked from the first page! Excellent novel and I recommend this one to anyone who is thinking of trying any of Krentz's novels!
