Product Description

Someone has been farting up a storm at school and everyone thinks Keith Emerson is to blame. Unfortunately for Keith, it has earned him the nickname "S.B.D." (silent but deadly). To make matters worse, Keith's dad is a self proclaimed "Fart Machine" who really stinks it up at home. With the science fair quickly approaching, Keith decides he has had enough. He comes up with a science fair project idea to turn the foul smell of human gas into something sweet smelling. The idea lands him in the principal's office, and in big trouble with his mom. With the help of his little sister Emma, his dad, his crazy grandma, and Benjamin Franklin (great American scientist), Keith will attempt to make the greatest scientific discovery of all time, the cure for the common fart.

4.0 out of 5 stars A book for kids but fine for adults too 21 Jun 2011
Format:Paperback|Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
This light-hearted story follows Keith Emerson, a 10-year-old boy, in his struggles to get a science project together before the annual science fair. There is huge expectation on him because the previous year he made "sweet farts" which are sweets that make farts smile nice. That project was a huge success and he feels under pressure to deliver something as successful this time around.

My first concern was whether this book would be too toilet-y for my tastes what with its title and all that but I needn't have worried. The humour was fine although based around farts the majority of the time. The rest of the humour was mainly generated from the banter between Keith and his friends.

The book flowed along nicely although it did take Keith an awfully long-time to get an idea for his science project - I'd already guessed what he'd do some time before - and also the science fair itself was over in a couple of pages despite the whole novel pretty much leading up to it. Further this book is a second in a series but doesn't rely on having any prior knowledge from the previous book as I followed it easily enough despite not having read the first one.

It took me about 2-hours to read and is for kids but adults can enjoy it too.

3.0 out of 5 stars Keith too young for all the pressure 11 Jun 2011
Format:Paperback|Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
This is the second book, book one deals with Keith inventing 'sweet farts'. There was enough in this book to follow what was happening, this book sees Keith under a lot of pressure to invent something equally amazing for this years science fair.

The fart jokes wore thin pretty quickly although overall I enjoyed the story. I wonder if the author 'Bean' got teased at school about his name (baked 'beans' - farting !) and this was his inspiration. I felt sorry for Keith, as a 10 year old boy he seemed under alot of pressure to do well and had no comfort at home. However a good happy ending with a moral. If life givess you lemons make lemonade.

Couldnt get my 8 + 9 year old interested in reading or being read this story so ended up reading it myself which to be honest was a chore. Enjoyed the preface and the rules of farts but the rest of the book didnt live up to this.

I thought this was a winner through and through. We all enjoy a bit of toilet humour and this delivered without being too crude.

Following the adventures of Little Kieth Emerson's science fair dilemma was enjoyable for readers young and old in my household. Suitable for a bit of reading each night to younger ones to get them into following longer stories (made attractive with farts) or doable in one sitting for an adult (couple of hours)

The book isnt surprising or challenging in any way but what it does do is hook kids into stories, you can fine tune the content when they get a little older.

2.0 out of 5 stars Sweet Farts 19 July 2011

An easy to follow story. Majority of young readers will predict the storyline. Loads of references to farts! My son would probably giggle away to all the fart references, but I'm not sure he'd find the rest of the story gripping enough to finish the book. Not sure what age this book would appeal to, I personally felt it was not suitable for my 7 year old. The story is around the life of a 10year old boy so I would assume children around that age would enjoy this book.
