Shirley Collins was one of the greatest singers of the English folk 'revival' (I never really liked that term, because folk music just 'is', it doesn't have to be revived). Anyway, yes, this record, dating from the very end of the 50s, combines influences of traditional English songs and some American ones - simple in structure yet exquisite in delivery.
If you like this and are looking for similar quality, I recommend anything by Shirley (and Dolly) Collins, Anne Briggs, Margaret Barry, or Young Tradition, British folk musicians of the same period. And of course if you want to go a bit more up the commercial path, the Incredible String Band and Fairport Convention.
