Going on the Amazon.com reviews you'd think this little story is really good, but I really wasn't as struck with it as they seem to be. The writing is fair and there aren't too many mistakes, but the story seems very much to be a rushed first draft.
The concept isn't bad, but it's underdeveloped. The story rushes towards the obvious conclusion with very little exploration of the 'ability' and how the protagonist comes to terms with it, controls it or even any real indication of how it is used quite so accurately.
The characters seem very flat, they come across as stereotypical and unconvincing. The abusive step-father is too unpleasant, being so thoroughly unlikeable that it seems comical at times. Kyle, the main protagonist, is a 13 year old boy who is scared of his step-father yet at one point stands up to him as if a different character altogether, 'get away from her,' Kyle said in a low voice. 'Or I'll kill you!'. He starts off terrified and desperate to avoid confrontation and ends up ruthless and calculating and doesn't really seem like a 13 year old boy at all.
The actual story is only just over 25% of the download, with the rest being promotional material for the writer's other work. If you are interested in the author's other work it may well be a good way to get an overview but I did not enjoy the story itself.
