5.0 out of 5 stars Not bad, not bad at all 22 Dec 2009

I used to think that people should never attempt to do remakes of classic songs. Most of the time they can go horribly wrong; you only have to look at G4's Bohemian Raphsody to realise that. Having said that, Robbie Williams' Lola cover stayed true to the original Kinks track, both of which I love. There are a few cases in which the cover is better than the original, I certainly found this with Take That's How Deep is Your Love. But in my opinion this cover is just as good as the Guns n' Roses original.

I first heard this cover, as I am sure most people did, on the John Lewis advert. I sat there listening to it, rewound and listened again, taking the melody in. I thought about Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland which is soon set to hit the big screen. Because they are both reimaginings of timeless classics. Taken By Trees have taken a song that everybody knows and breathed new life into it. I still love the original, but this cover is perfect for relaxing to after a long hard day, wonderful music and beautiful lyrics. It's just like the original but completely different.

5.0 out of 5 stars fantastic cover 20 Nov 2009
Having seen this track on John Lewis christmas advert, googled to find who it was. Have downloaded and cant stop playing it. My son plays it in his band as a cover version of Guns n Roses, this version is so melodic and gentle

My personal feeling with cover versions of classic songs is, don't try and make an exact copy, rather make it totally your own, ie different!

And, boy, does this work. A haunting acoustic melody with vocals that send a shiver down one's spine. First listen and you're hooked, and then it gets better and better with each listening!
