Format: Audio CD Verified Purchase
This budget-priced 2-CD set gives us a renowned Dutch organist playing what is probably the best historic organ in Holland. Disc 1 features Buxtehude and Bach; disc 2 provides some more Buxtehude plus a few pieces by Sweelinck. Kee is at his usual best, with just the right registrations, tempi and articulation for a widely-ranging programme. Compared to other recordings at Alkmaar the organ seems a little remote, but on the positive side this allows breadth and space for the sound of the main 16-foot-based chorus featured in several of the pieces. These include the dashing 'Little' Prelude and fugue in E minor, familiar to most student organists, and Buxtehudes's powerful D major Praeludium. The Sweelinck items include a charming partita on 'Puer nobis nascitur' which I don't recall hearing before. The booklet includes the organ's specification and all registrations used. All in all this is very good value for money.
