Product Description

Product Description

Here, in graphic detail, the Swansea Jacks recount the history of their times following the Welsh club. Cardiff City and their infamous Soul Crew have been arch-rivals of the Swansea Jacks for over four decades. Tooze and King chart the rise of the Swansea firm, from the Skinhead movement in the late 60s until today's present fashion-conscious casuals. They write not just about the hooligan scene, but also about the politics involved in following a lower league team, the music and the drugs scene.

Well known fact the jacks have never had a tidy firm, bit of a joke really if you like chasing kids into the sea. Nowhere near as good as Browner's Bristol Rovers book, the 6:57 musings or the first Soul crew one.

...very poor account of off-field activities at the vetch and away from south wales...like a lot of other books of this type, much exaggaration going on,especially with their battles with their near neighbours cardiff...having travelled to both places on several occasions,i must say that ninian park was/is a much dodgier place to go to than the vetch/liberty ever was...one day there might be a decent book written about the exploits of either the soul crew/jacks...to date it still hasn't happened...you'll find this book in the fiction section of your local bookshop, alongside all the west ham/chelsea books...one to avoid...

The book should be renamed Jackanory
Having read the book, the one thing that comes across is that Tooze and his firm seem to believe that Swansea are in the top league when it comes to football violence. Read more

A good read, but should be a work of fiction
If you knew nothing of the conflict between Cradiff and Swansea over the years you would think this is a good read. Its got a lot of photographs and news cuttings inside it. Read more

A truthful look at youth culture.
