i bought this for my daughter and she absolutely loved it we have had great fun staging the ballet and we both now feel we know everything we need to know about it and as a result i've booked tickets for us to see it 'in real life'. i am going to get the other books for her birthday, as it is a beautiful book and very well made and i feel it was very good value for money.

This is a very ingenious and beautiful book, which is the ideal present for ballet obsessed little girls. The book unfolds to create a little theatre and all the characters/backdrops are neatly packed away. The puppets have straws attached, so you can act out the ballet and they are easy to use. However, it does require an adult/older child to assemble the stage and pack away the pieces, as they are delicate and can be ripped. My daughter is five and she absolutely loves it, but I think a younger child (unless they are very careful) might find it a bit fiddly and delicate. The theatre comes with a book, containing a CD of the music and outlining the story and the characters, with interesting background information on Tchaikovsky, the history of the tutu and some history about the ballet and its audiences. My daughter has left the stage open in her room and it makes a pretty decoration. This makes a lovely and unusual present.
