Product Description

Product Description

The legendary 'American Gothic' story arc was seen by many as the pinnacle of Alan Moore's industry-changing work on the Swamp Thing title in the 1980s. Now, for the first time, this epic tale is being collected in full colour. Taking Swamp Thing on a journey to the darkness at the heart of contemporary America, Moore's stories of underwater vampires, werewolves, serial killers and zombies take the cliches of horror, and make them frightening again, using them as icons that represent the real horror of American society. And Swamp Thing's guide on this journey? A fellow by the name of John Constantine...the first ever appearance of the trenchcoated mystic. He proved so popular that he was of course later given his own title - Hellblazer.

Alan Moore shows us exactly why he is the most original and gifted writers in the game. Swamp Thing is reborn through the genious of Moores writing and the amazing illusrations of Bissette and Totleben, as he tackles the undead, warewolvess and serial killers in what is truly 'American Gothic'. Read it, you owe it to yourself!

When Neil Gaiman (Sandman, Newerwhere) decided to become a journalist instead of storyteller, this book became an argument that gave us another great writer. Do I have to add more? Probably not. But let me remind us all that right after the "Curse" Alan (before "Watchmen") answered on young Gaiman's question "How to write a comic book?" Swamp thing story still is a good example how one has to do it - with power and fierce beauty.
