Biography

GUN’s contemporary take on authentic rock gave them an edge over their peers in the late 80’s and throughout the 90’s. Formed in Glasgow in 1987 by the Gizzi brothers (Jools & Dante), the band personified a punk spirit and the working class roots of the city. Debut album, “Taking On The World, brought with it many successful singles (Better Days / Money) and was ... Read more in Amazon's Gun Store

One of the first albums i bought way back in 98 and the dust has yet to settle on this one.
On the strength of "Word Up" (the best cover ever)
i bought this album which inspired me to buy every single GUN album to date.
"Stand In Line" & "Find My Way" do not set the mood for the album, but are still quite catchy.
Then there's the epic "Word Up" (Volume needed for that one) and the awe that surrounds "Don't Say It's Over".
"The Only One" is a touch weak, the only ballad on the album but still not bad to sing along too.
Tracks 6 - 10 blew me away. "Something Worthwhile" is angst ridden rock rap having a go at the industry and the album has my all time favourite song on - "One Reason" which kicks off with :-
"I was thinkin' bout the time we were young, swimming against the tide.
Was i blind, cause all i saw was the future in your eyes.
Now those days are over and nothings what it seems.
Reality has changed our lives and taken away our dreams"
Well worth it, it's a shame they split up.

This album is the pinnacle of Guns career. They rock out on this one to wonderful effect. This is up there with all the great (British) Rock albums of all time. Yes - it's that good.
Their cover of "Word Up" is so much better than the red Cod-piece wearer's version to blow it outta the water. Other highlights include "Only One", "Don't Say IT's Over" (My personal fav), "Cryng Over You" etc
Really, tho', the whole thing is peerless. There is no real duffer to be heard. Excellent rock ballads. Classic melody with crunching guitar. Souring vocals. Classic UK/Scottish rock with no boundries asked for or given.
Brilliant. Quite, quite Brilliant!

Another quality album from the Glasgow band. Produced by Chris Sheldon of Therapy? fame, this third release from the guys really rocks. Includes the single Word Up! which charted at number 8 and this version had GUN stamped all over it.
Who knows what would have happened if Mark Rankin and company had followed this up with another cd of this quality instead of the Andrew farris produced, 'poppier' 0141...The sky was the limit!

Swagger is the 3rd album from Gun and the best yet - I find it hard to believe that they are still relatively unknown. Whether you're into deep and meaningful lyrics that hit home or just prefer something to sing along to then you'll like Swagger. Even the songs with potentially depressing lyrics are sung in a hopeful up-beat way such as 'Don't Say It's Over' and 'Seems Like I'm Losing You'. The whole album is sung in true 80's rock style with lots of amazing guitar solos that remind me of Bon Jovi's early music.

This album is what rock music is all about, great lyrics, great riffs and fantastic guitar solos. I also cant believe how relatively unknown this band are, they should be up there with the best of them, anyway if you like Bon Jovi, Def Leppard etc then you're sure to like this!

I had this on tape many years ago. I kept hearing different versions of 'Word Up' and remembered it on Swagger (I think Gun did the best version actually). I just had to get the CD and love every track. A most under-rated band - they are brilliant! Love it.

one of the best groups, but they never put themselves to make it to the same level as other heavy metal bands, a shame, they have some really great songs, and this will shake the dust of your shelves......totally fab....buy it...

Just to sum this up in a few words.Staggering!
Brillant songs like "Don't say it's over","One Reason" and my fave "The only one" not to mention the amasing cover of "Word up" this album (all of theirs really) has to be up there in my all time top five.
Buy this if you enjoy mature rock and stunning song writing!
What ever happened to "Mark Rankin"? His voice is TOO GOOD to be just forgotten!
