Product Description

Book Description

A wonderfully honest and beautifully-written memoir from one of the most intriguing football managers of the last 25 years.

About the Author

Sven-Goran Eriksson's remarkable career spans four decades over as many continents. He was born in the small town of Sunne, Sweden in 1948. At the age of 34, he led mostly amateur side IFK Gothenburg to UEFA Cup victory in one of the greatest upsets in football history. He has won numerous league and cup titles in Portugal and Italy with Benfica, Roma and Lazio. In 2001, he became the first foreign manager of the England national team, reaching three consecutive quarter-finals in major tournaments. His winning record as England manager is eclipsed only by the legendary Sir Alf Ramsey. Following managerial positions at Manchester City, Mexico, Ivory Coast and Leicester, and a spell as the technical director of Al Nasr in the United Arab Emirates league, he is currently the manager of Chinese Super League club Guangzhou R&F.

I received this book as a Christmas present, and having never done a review before, I wanted to do one on this as I found it a very good read.

I was always a little sceptical about Sven, he was and is quite closed off, he likes to keep his personal life to himself, and like he says in the book, why should it be people's business what happens in his private life?

This book has made me appreciate Sven more, I really enjoyed reading about how he got into coaching and his early success at Gothenburg/ Benfica and then how he progressed onto the England job, things got a bit botched from there. I found it very hard to stop reading , he doesn't go into major details but that was never expected but it was fascinating to learn about his experience on the football side of things.

It's a very boy type book, with 2 real subjects... Football and girls. If you like those 2 things, you will enjoy this book.

A good book. There was a lot I didn't know about Sven and some jobs I forgot he did. One thing for sure he was one of the best managers we had and with hindsight we were lucky to get a man of his ability to get the England job.

Yes, interesting book. Actually Sven has been rather 'successful' and its easy to forget that as he has become a bit of a pantomime figure after the England job. Although, I am not sure how much he has contributed to this or the media.....

Great to see things from Sven's point of view. Very interesting and very revealing to see he got swindled out of most of his money. Wish him the best luck in China!

I enjoyed his book and felt Sven painted a truthful picture of football. He gently mentions some of the women in his life but is a gentleman throughout. A good read and well written.

Terrible self indulgent nonsense. Just shows how desperate England football is to appoint Sven to lead it. And it shows how shallow the game is
