Unfortunately, this book does not offer any valuable advice about shopping in HK or mainland China, and in fact is largely deluded about what is and is not available, and what are and are not fake goods. Living in China, I was given this book and hoped to find some tips on where to find some special items, but sadly, this offers nothing over and above a regular guidebook, and is in fact less accurate and full of basic spelling mistakes.

I did not travel to Hong Kong and the book might be helpful for travelers to Hong Kong. I was in Shanghai and there was very little information on Shanghai. What was there was not very helpful. Went to small shoe shop that was recommended and they had about 30 pairs of shoes (total). Wasn't worth the trip.

This was the most disorganized travel guide specializing in the shopping area, I have ever come upon. The cross referencing required called for a Ph.D degree. One of the author's favorite shopping street (where she had to buy another suitcase to get her purchases home) was filled with knock off tennis shoes stores - nothing else could be bought there.

Bought this before traveling to Shanghai and Beijing. It was helpful and our group used it as a reference. I wish there would have been more on those two cities but it was hard to find a book solely on shopping China minus Hong Kong. It was pretty true to what it said within. I would recommend it. It was a fun read and useful.
