The Suunto Foot POD Mini is perfect equipment for measuring and recording speed and distance information during training sessions. This lightweight device provides extremely precise information without the need to communicate with the GPS system. The foot pod records the speed and length of each step and wirelessly sends the data to any compatible watch. It features the disturbance-free ANT transmission technology to ensure that the device does not interfere with other HR monitors, power lines or gym machines. I've been using the Suunto system for years. I've had every variation of the FootPod and this is by far the best. Super compact and fits (and works) in a Nike + shoe. Much more accurate than GPS - within 1% for most of my runs. And you can replace the battery unlike Nike+.

I use this for triathlons (don't want to have to turn a GPS on before the run) trail running (GPSs suck in the woods) and it works great. I have three different calibrations (road triathlon, training trail shoes, racing trail shoes) and, depending on what race I'm doing and what shoes I'm using, all I do is take 30 seconds and change the calibration. Works great, very accurate, weighs next to nothing, pairs IMMEDIATELY when I start running without me having to do anything.

Managed to sync with my M5 very quickly, sits comfortably on my running shoe and never feels like it will come off. Overall a good piece of kit that I wish I had bought the day I got my watch.

Hard to calibrate with Suunto t6d

This pod is quite difficult to calibrate and show correct readings when attached on the shoe. In my opinion it gives better readings when used inside a shoe designed for e.g. Adidas miCoach. However, Suunto does not guarantee that it will not brake when used inside a shoe. It also loses connection to the t6d every now and then when used inside a shoe.
Despite this I will give it a four star rating. Because once you get it calibrated it's very accurate. It's very small and you don't even notice it while running.
