this is a really nice toy / piece of equipment (delete as appropriate!)

overall build quality is very good - it has a lovely "quality" feel to it

the user interaction has been simple / complex / simple - let me explain

remove it from the box and it tells you plug in to charge - which you do with the very simple usb / clip plug - and it just gets on and downloads the movescout software - very simple, very nice

you then try and move on and the instructions are a bit complex, with 5 buttons all doing different things on different screens - a little bit off-putting

but once it's charged and you start trying to use it, it starts feeling simple again - and you tell it what you are doing - so if you are in the gym you can just use it as a timer and heart rate monitor and that's fine - tell it you're cycling and the screens are showing different things, such as speed, and when you stop and plug it in, because it knows you've been cycling it will automatically upload that activity to Strava - clever eh !

and there's loads more clever stuff in terms of configuration - which you do on the website which then updates the watch, that I haven't really scratched the surface yet

so, if you're an elite tri-athlete, well you probably have one already, if you're a "weekend athlete" who likes gadgets then you're going to love it

and finally - can you wear it as a watch ? - with jeans and a t-shirt, yes you can get away with it - with a dress shirt and suit, no you really can't I'm afraid, just too bulky

Having lost 3 stone following a New Year's resolution and perhaps a little bit of a midlife crisis, I have got heavily into cycling and running.

I needed something to motivate me that was hard wearing, hence I went for the version with the sapphire screen. The watch works perfectly and has no scratches on the screen despite many times being left face down, and unlike the GPS apps for my phone does not run down the battery while I am out getting my adrenalin rush.

The display tells you how far you have run/cycled, your time per mile, number of calories etcetera, all data I find necessary to motivate me on a long run or cycle. It is also rechargeable via a USB port.

If I hadn't recently bought this one, I would opt for the newer version which you can upload to your phone via bluetooth, but for now more than happy with this one. If you only want a HR monitor for the gym go for the polar as you don't need the extra expense GPS function.

I acquired this item through amazon and SimplyRun after much research in to a quality usable watch suitable from Cycling Navigation and sports training assessment capability. Delivery was within 24hrs which I find incredible as it was free:
It cam packages perfectly with return support information, should I not be satisfied (no chance of that):
Quality hard Sapphire glass match the rest of the product, Long charge life (30 days watch only & 15 hrs with everything running; GPS, heart monitor, route tracking, altitude, compass etc.)
Large enough to see all information required, attractive and stylish, yet neat enough to ware as a watch although chunky.
The HR monitor paired immediately, the unit charges via USB from my Apple (PC compatible also) and links to update/down load data.
The software from 'Movescount' is really intuitive and after a little use plus further reading of the download instructions, full use instigated and proven. The charts, route planner and training schedule interface is also simple and comprehensive. I did read that some suers who have a specific site for storing and sharing their data had concerns, although there are export options, but I will always use Movescount which also keeps this quality tool up to date - You feel Suunto care about providing a longterm solution that is future proofed beyond the the fair capital investment. (Note: SimplyRun did provide at a very special price as well as quickly).
Regards GVC

I wanted something versatile: GPS, compass, waypoints, pressure, HR,.... all in one. I did not want several different pieces of kit (this was my first such gadget) and mostly I only use the more basic aspects but for different kinds of sport. This is what the Ambit2 delivers. That said, it often does so very well, e.g. when skitouring between mountains and through forests and wearing a jacket and thick gloves the track was still rather accurate. Another nice feature is the customisability. You can make your own modes and load them in and out of the Ambit2 on the website. Personally I like it that way as the point and click on a computer is much easier than if this were done on the watch itself. It also allows for more variety this way. The fact that one has to decide which 10 modes to load is not an issue as I usually know what I am going to use, i.e. while skitouring I will not suddenly want to do an unplanned marathon followed by snorkeling and all that without ever having access to a computer. The memory and battery are also sufficient for my use.

At first I feared I may have trouble with navigating the watch but it turns out its very intuitive (at least for me) and all the more complex stuff can be configured nicely at the desktop anyway.

All in all, money very well spent. The only issue that I have is that there is not Ubuntu/Linux interface so I have to keep a Windows partition on my hard-disk. I am sure it cannot be difficult to make such an interface for all the people who prefer Linux.
