Biography

R.E.M. was an American rock band formed in Athens, Georgia, USA, in 1980 by Michael Stipe (lead vocals), Peter Buck (guitar), Mike Mills (bass guitar and backing vocals), and Bill Berry (drums and percussion). R.E.M. was one of the first popular alternative rock bands, and gained early attention due to Buck's ringing, arpeggiated guitar style and Stipe's unclear vocals. R.E.M. released its first… Read more in Amazon's R.E.M. Store

"Suspicion" is a good example of Rem's lack of judgement in handling the Up lp. The song is a beautifully dreamy ballad with a twilit murkiness reminiscent of "I dont sleep I dream" but in fairness there are far better singles on Up such as "Walk Unafraid" & "Hope". Also a hazard of ordering this cd is that you may not get a version with all of the advertised tracks on - I only got live versions of "Electrolite"& "Man on the Moon" (the former is pleasing although uninspired and the latter is blighted by indistinguishable vocals). This gets 3 stars because its by Rem but its only really for fanatics.

This song is best heard live, I first heard it at Landsdown road in Dublin as the sun was setting. The song is mellow and relaxing and as all R.E.M music, it is made with feeling and inspires memory in us. Suspision is a smooth ballod with Stipe singing in a high key uttering his paranoid imagination and his feeling of betrayl, the music lets us hear that the betrayal is bittersweet, as the sooth flowing lounge sounding rem seem meloncholy. Truly an underrated rem song as it at first seems different to the usual formulaic classics, but at a secont glance one can see that it is a creative R.E.M holding on to things that make them great.

well done 19 May 2000

For a limited edition 3-inch cd single, you get 2 great new versions of previously released REM songs. Suspicion is a wonderful song from UP, and this live version really captures the sweetness of it. But this live version of Perfect Circle is just a nice. It is cool to see REM put this song on a 1998 single (live) that was originally done on 1983's Murmur. As far as the other Suspicion cd-singles, this is really the one you want, unless you want the album version of Suspicion and another version of a very-overplayed Man on the Moon.

It is so perfect.... 17 Nov 1999

This CD single is perfect - both songs are done beautifully live - creating an air of freshness and coziness that only R.E.M. can. It does fail to get five stars though because I am now forced to also buy Suspicion Cd single #1..which also seems to be a beautifully perfect cd too...
