5.0 out of 5 stars This album is dangerously cool 10 Jun 2001

Format:Audio CD
Gone are the men-hating days of "The writings on the wall" album. DC have returned with one of my favourite albums of all time. I bought this CD nearly 2 months ago, the day it was released and i have found myself listening to it every single day since. The album covers a wide range of topics: Partyin' (Bootylicious, Sexy Daddy & Dance With Me). Bitchin' (Survivor, Nasty Girl & Fancy). Lovin' life (Happy face) but it also touches the topic of abuse (The Story Of Beauty). This album also includes 4 of the best love songs ever written in my opinion. The BeeGees cover "Emotion" is a grower but eventually i realised its a really nice song. Beyoncés solo effort "My Heart Still Beats" is a gentle song which is really nice to chill out to with your boyfriend/girlfriend. "Brown Eyes" is the most instantly catchy ballad, the verses are really nice. "Dangerously In Love" has the most beautiful lyrics i've ever heard. Overall, this album will not dissapoint any R&B fan or pop fan alike. Every one of the 18 tracks are classics. Pure brilliant! DC are better than they have ever been before. Keep it up girls!

4.0 out of 5 stars An unexpected gem. 28 Feb 2006
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
I'm an r'n'b fan- or least I used to be, before I cottoned onto the fact that most artists use their strongest track to capitalise on an album full of bland, poorly-written, unimaginative ballads.
I'm afraid I wasn't expecting anything different from DC and held off buying this album until it was reduced to bargain basement price. The only reason for my purchase was that I enjoyed 'Emotion' so much, and by the time I bought the album, it was better value than buying a CD single of just one track.
I drove to work this morning listening to the CD for the first time, and am amazed to say that I didn't skip one single track. In fact, the only time my finger touched the forward/ back buttons was to repeat Apple Pie a la Mode and Emotion. Simply put, this is a corker of an album. And what's more I'm afraid I totally disagree with the Amazon reviewer's lukewarm review. There are no real downtempo tracks until the latter third of the album and even these are beautifully written and performed.
It's glitzy, fiesty, sexy girlie r'n'b at its best, and far superior to anything DC have done of late. Anyone who enjoys Beyonce's solo stuff- with perhaps the exception of the inane and pointless 'Check On It'- should buy this album now. It's also a good introduction to r'n'b for anyone looking to get started with their collection. Surprisingly excellent.

5.0 out of 5 stars So Good 9 Jan 2004
Format:Audio CD
I am afraid i just had to use a song from their second album to describe this, their third! Although it probably seems impossible to them and their public, Destiny's Child have managed to follow up huge hit "The Writing's On The Wall" with an 'almost as good' record which will fly off the shelves. It holds all that it needs to: upbeat girly anthems, heart wrenching ballad s(always at the end!) and the all too familiar gospel medely, which is part of any DC record. However, it lacks the all round brilliance of "The Writing's. . .", and i just can't put my finger on it. Maybe it is because simply every track on that was perfect, a lovely slice of smooth r'n'b, and because "Survivor" has it's let downs. Parts of it just don't fit! However, it is a brilliant album to listen to, with great ballads and absoulutely loads of songs, buy it, after all i did give it 5 stars!

4.0 out of 5 stars Generally very good.... 17 Sep 2002
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
Hmmm....this album is good but lacks something that I can't quite put my finger on. It's a must, however, for DC fans, r'n'b enthusiasts and ballad fans. "Nasty Girl" is such a good song that it has to be heard to be believed! The latter and "Bootylicious" front DC's new tongue-in-cheek songs image. Not the kind of songs you hear every day so it's good to see such a high profile group pursuing it. "Emotion" and "Brown Eyes" will get you to well up and they hammer home a really good point. "Dangerously In Love" is great, it has a moral vibe about it. Strange though it is, "D-C3:Outro", is a nice reassurance for fans about another line-up change. Give this a go if you liked Destiny's Child in the past and want to start listening to them again.

2.0 out of 5 stars Chris_Number9@hotmail.com 11 Aug 2001

After buying Destiny's Child's last album, The Writings On The Wall and liking it i decided to give their new one, Survivor a try, to put it mildly i was disappointed.
The album starts of well enough with the now anthem, Independent Woman.
The next track is the title track, Survivor, an R 'n' B/pop song. The commercial sound and incessant warbling from Beyonce means that this is the first of many songs on the album i steer clear of.
The next track is Bootylicious, another one of the few really good tracks on the album, standing out from all the other r 'n' b/pop songs which litter the album.
Things start to go down hill from here with the truly awful Nasty Girl, soundind like a terrible attempt at recreating classics like Bill Bills Bills and Bug-A-Boo. Steer clear of this song at all costs.
Things pick up after the let down of Nasty Girl, but only temporarily with the cool r 'n' b sounds of Fancy, show casing Beyonce's impressive voice without going over the top.
After this though things plummit with a string of terrible songs, starting with Apple Pie..., . Following this the identical songs, Sexy Daddy and Perfect Man which should be avoided at all costs.
Independent Woman Part 2 is interesting enough, a slowed down version of the original but nothing special, follwed by the sickly sweet and dreadful Happy Face, one of the worst, which is saying something, tracks on the album.
Dance With Me follows Happy Face and sounds good until you realise its a copy of Kelis's Game SHow, and a rubbish copy at that.
