Product Description

Product Description

What do you do when the law wants you behind bars and the New York crime families want you buried? That was the life or death dilemma confronting Andrew DiDonato, who began his criminal career at the age of 14 under the watchful eyes of the local mob. By the time he was 17, the infamous Gambino family made DiDonato an associate of the Nicholas Corozzo crew. For the next 14 years he was a loyal street soldier immersed in dangerous and profitable activities including burglary, extortion, loan sharking, car theft, bank robbery, counterfeiting, drug dealing, witness tampering, weapons possession, and attempted murder. At age 31, DiDonato ran afoul of the both the law and his friends, turning him into a hunted man on two fronts. After 17 months on the run, he was lucky the law caught him first. Surviving the Mob is a cautionary tale of the harsh reality of a criminal, inmate, fugitive, and witness who--so far--has lived to tell the tale.

5.0 out of 5 stars Surviving the mob 17 Dec 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
If you want to settle down and read a thumping good book - about Mafia gangsters - this is for you. The story just starts rolling along from the first page - and continues to gather speed throughout. What soon became obvious was how little 'mystique' there really is attached to the Mafia - most of that seems to have been created in Hollywood. The brutal truth is - these people were no more than violent and vicious criminals. There seems to be very little of a ' Mafia code of honour and brotherhood ' when then chips are down - and the law gets you - it's every rat for himself. They are quite happy to quickly shop each other to save their own skins.
Go on - buy it - I'll be VERY surprised if you are disappointed... it's that good.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very interesting read on life on the streets!!! 24 Mar 2011
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I found the book to be a very interesting read, once started very hard to put down! Told from the veiw point of a street soldiers postion in the Gambino crime family. Shows how tough times can be at this level of the "Mob". Money and loyalty flows up the ranks to the top men, but seldom if at all does it go back to the men on the streets. Left with no other choice the author turns on the "Mob" and goes into "The Witness Protection Programme" Told in an honest way, the author states that he has no regrates about turning, and looks back on his years in the "Mob" as wasted time. Buy the book it gives a slightly different look at the "Mob" today. A Very well written book one of the best "Mob" related books i have read over the years!

If you enjoyed this book I would also recommend the EXCELLENT "Brooklyn Gangsters 70 miles of Blood and Balls by Frankie DiMatteo 22 chapters on different gangsters like Roy Demeo, Sonny Black, John Gotti and also some interesting pages on a few gangsters who don't always get a lot of print. buy it from Amazon or Visit mobcandy.com and tell Frankie you were directed from my review on Amazon u.k.

I really enjoyed reading this book. It flowed well, kept me interested and was just an all round easy, good read. Another spill the beans type but it was well written and (if you're into these sort of books) worth reading.
