Product Description

Face the past or look to the future? Both will hurt. One could kill her.

All her life, Lily Crane has suppressed her childhood memories, masking the signs of abuse with a variety of looks. From brunette to blonde, tall to short — as a Mimic, changing shape is her gift. Her right. Her achilles heel.

It's Lily's latest likeness, chosen simply by accident, which threatens to repeat a history she's desperate to forget. Worse, she must do so without the one man who takes all her pain away: Cael Aldridge.

Cael has no intention of leaving Lily on her own. He never has. Now, with the woman he loves in the hands of a predator who wants Lily for her genetics, Cael will do everything he can to bring her home.

Alive.

He can only pray he isn't too late.

5.0 out of 5 stars a beautiful romance 31 Aug 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
As a Mimic, albeit a weak one, Lily Crane can look however she wants. Unfortunately the ability has some disadvantages, as Lily discovers when her current face causes a case of mistaken identity which will force her to face the past she has tried so hard to forget.

Cael Alderidge would go to the ends of the earth to keep Lily safe, and with a Dangerous Mimic wanting her for unknown reasons; Cael must be willing to do anything to keep the woman he loves safe.

This book throws you straight into the action from the very first page and you will be hooked until the very last. Aimee Laine definitely has the recipe for a very good paranormal romance; surrender has a perfect balance of action, romance, intrigue and mystery.

The characters have an incredible amount of depth to them, especially Lily. As a mimic her powers are very weak but she has an inner strength and determination that is remarkable considering her tortured past. Cael is the perfect love interest: smart, strong, sexy and protective of Lily without being too possessive. The secondary characters are just as amazing, my favourite was Maggie and I am hoping we will get to see a lot more of her in a future book.

The twists and turns in the plot kept me guessing throughout and there were points in the book where I could barely stand the suspense of wanting to know what Roy was up to. I loved the romance between Lily and Cael though I did keep wondering why they weren't already together after knowing each other for so long and clearly being perfect each other. However I suppose that's life, not knowing what you have until it is torn away from you.

Overall an incredible book and I can't wait for the third in the Mimics of Rune series.

5.0 out of 5 stars CAEL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 14 Mar 2013

Format:Kindle Edition
Loved Surrender. From the opening chapter that throws straight into action from Cael's POV, to learning more about Lily's past, to watching the suppressed romance blossom, to watching the character(s) grow, to the intrigue & suspense, and the settings & scenes-painted & world building ... I loved it.

Man, this is one heartstring-tugging story of self-discovery. Lily has always been the weaker of the Mimics of Rune clan--she certainly seemed that way in Little White Lies--but in Surrender she is forced into learning a self-history she didn't know, whilst being dragged through memories she'd rather to forget. And it's sad. Even what she puts herself through in a determination to prove she's stronger than everyone thinks is sad. The sacrifices she makes are sad.

Then we have Cael, whose instinct has always been to protect Lily. For the most part, she usually lets him. And having to take a step back to give Lily breathing space to prove herself is not an easy task for him to accomplish. Dude, I fell in love with this guy. With his protectiveness, as well as his inner strength and his respect for Lily that drives him to let her walk her own path. Then there was his pain, which came through almost as tangible to me as Lily's did. He definitely steals the show whenever he's on stage. All other blokes in the story pretty much faded into the background--coz, dayum, did Cael have my attention. And not in the macho `I am man, hear me roar' kind of way. It was more in a quiet kind of way, an inner turmoil kind of way--with a subtlety made all the more effective because it was pretty damned obvious Cael ain't exactly a pune.

I don't want to say too much without giving it all away. But these shapeshifting marvels give the reader a show that is a whole lot more impressive, and way more serious, than the reader was entertained with in Little White Lies. In fact, as soon as I have an opening slot, I imagine I'll be reading this one again and with the way this one ended? I cannot wait for the third instalment to arrive.
3.0 out of 5 stars ~Surrender 4 Nov 2012

Readers should eat their Wheaties before attempting to read Surrender. Ms. Laine drops them into the middle of the action and in the midst of foggy impressions of what is going on and why, which leaves readers bewildered and with the feeling of being behind from page one. Surrender is a-thrill-a-minute, a suspenseful story between good and evil with a paranormal twist. And I enjoy reading of a different kind of character, one that is not the usual werewolf or vampire. This is a truly enjoyable book with an interesting storyline as long as readers are prepared for some confusion. I would suggest reading the first book in the series, Little White Lies, for a better understanding.

5.0 out of 5 stars So, so good! 25 Sep 2012

I gave Little White Lies (Mimics of Rune #1) 5 stars, but this one I must admit captured me more. If 5.5 stars were available, that's what Surrender would receive. Perhaps I ought to change my star rating system.

Anyhoo...

Lily's story is emotionally moving. She's forced to face her haunting past and finds unexpected, but welcomed surprises along the way.

Yummies: Cael. Faithful, rock solid changeling who would do anything for Lily. I could go on & on, but what woman wouldn't want a man as focused on her as he is on Lily? She's one lucky woman.

Lily herself is a troubled chracter whose story reaches out to entangle the reader in her woes. She gained my empathy & I couldn't wait for her story to come a-right. I didn't want it to end - I just wanted that HEA she definitely deserved!

Yuckies: Ray *SPOILER ALERT* the villain came across as a slimy, sneaky, shiver inducing chunk of puke. However, he too was portrayed in such a way that I can't even call his character yucky. Just the changeling himself.

Recommend: If you enjoyed LWL, you'll love this 2nd installment. If you haven't read LWL, do so!

5.0 out of 5 stars Second in the Series-Wonderful Book 15 Sep 2012
By Charlayne Elizabeth - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
Cael Aldridge follows and finally catches up to the elusive Roy Marlow who has been following Cael's love-interest, Lilly, for some, as Cael believes, nefarious intent.

Lilly Crane's birthday is coming up soon. She will change and whether she changes again is up to her, her DNA. Her best friend, Charley is getting married and everything is coming together well until someone grabs her and drugs her, dragging her cross-country and installing her as someone's wife and mother. But why?

Surrender is the second in Aimee Laine's Mimics of Rune series (the first was Little White Lies). I didn't read the first one but jumped right into the second and loved it. There was only a little confusion as I got to know the characters but the author doesn't leave much out of the second book, you can pick it up and read it without feeling like you missed something important.

Her Mimics are not only interesting but unusual in the paranormal fiction area. They can change to look like anyone, or anything, with differing abilities per person. And they don't live forever, there are limits to things and not everyone is always drop-dead gorgeous all the time.

And there are enemies, people who want to know what the Mimics are and how they do things. And they are not beyond doing great harm to do it. Lilly is a damaged woman, she's been through a lot as a youngster and she has self-esteem issues as well as fears that come out of her past. And she wants to trust, especially Cael, but even that trust is hard for her.
Surrender is a beautifully written, well edited, tight and exciting read. I completely fell into the story and went through all of the trials with Lilly and her friends. I cannot wait to go back and read Little White Lies and then catch the next Mimics of Rune installment.
