"The Surrender of a Lady" is a fabulously rich, lush, unforgettable harem romance! It is filled with incredible emotion, danger and undeniable romance. The next two books in the trilogy, "The Seduction of His Wife" and "The Secret Desires of a Governess", will be set in London and feature the friends of the hero. Tiffany Clare is a young author and a wonderful new voice in the tradition of authors like Stephanie Laurens and Mary Balogh.

1.0 out of 5 stars Ridiculous plot 10 July 2011
Format:Mass Market Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Silly plot. Lady Elena is sold into slavery by her husband in order to settle his debts. She is turned into a harem girl in Constantinople. She is auctioned to customers of her master on a regular basis. After 5 years of being a sex slave, the Marquess of Rothburn recognises her on the auction block. He was in love with her before she married back in England. He purchases her for a month and before the time is up he kidnaps her. Her master manages to steal her back and she returns to life as a harem girl until the Marquess purchases her freedom.

This was all a bit sordid and unromantic for me. Elena was very weak willed and never tried to take responsibility for her fate. It was a mystery to me why the Marquess should continue to be so smitten with her.

2.0 out of 5 stars Great concept 5 Oct 2010
By A. Kunz - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback
The story concept was great; kudos for thinking outside the box. The writing was fine. Unfortunately, it didn't live up to its potential. What really killed it for me was the romance, or lack thereof. I didn't feel any connection AT ALL between the H&h. There was no development of the relationship between them. It was almost like she wrote an erotica novel and then threw in a completely superfluous romance subplot to market to a bigger audience.

3.0 out of 5 stars Mixed Feelings 1 Oct 2010
By ng - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Overall I have conflicting opinions on this book. I thought the premise (sold into slavery) and the internal battle that happens as the heroine learns to live in a new cultural, was great and different from the norm. I also liked the heros own struggles with addiction which the author captured well. That said, I found the story a bit repetitive especially in the dialogue and the internal battle that occurs for the heroine seems over done. I also thought that portions were unrealistic - the heroine is still a bit naive and innocent after being sold into prostitution for more than four years (spoiler* following a year of "training" by her master.) Overall, didn't love the book, but it gets credit for not following the same formula of all the other romance novels I have been reading recently.

1.0 out of 5 stars Should I finish this book? 27 Oct 2010
By J. Johnson - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I am 3/4 done with this book after forcing myself to get that far. Yes, this author has done something different than the "normal" historical romance, but where is the romance? Some of the love scenes were erotic and the rest were ho hum and rushed through. Not that I read books for the sex, but I feel that love scenes develop the romantic relationship between the characters, and these two definitely need to have some romance. So far, I don't see how they relate to each other. They recognize each other from the past...and? I just don't think I can finish this book because it doesn't seem to be getting any better.
