This is the second time I have purchased this book, I loaned the first copy, both friend and book never to be seen again. This book is an excellent read and you have laugh at Colonel Ashton Sinclair's determination and subtleness, to wear away Netherlands Broom resolve not get involved with him as he is military.

But come the night of the Brothers Auction that will change, "Trask glanced around the room I'm sure most of you are familiar with the marines' slogan of 'Looking for a few good men, I present to some, and introduce to others, brother of the hour, Colonel Ashton Sinclair of the United States Marine Corps. Standing before them was the most handsome spit-and-polished marine she had ever seen. With hair flowing past his shoulders underneath his military hat, he was dressed in his officers dress uniform, complete with ceremonial sword. Moving with stiff-spine precision he walked toward the front of the stage. When he came to a stop, he reached across his body and withdrew his sword from the scabbard. The lights seemed to hit the gleaming, polished metal and radiate off every individual in the place as he raised it high. Ashton then lowered the sword slowly to hold it by his side.

The room erupted in an uproar of pandemonium, as the women started screaming, hollering and giving Ashton a standing ovation. Women loved men in uniform and there was no doubt he was top prize tonight.

Brenda Jackson's novels are always an excellent read. Surrender (Arabesque)

5.0 out of 5 stars SURRENDER ~IS~AWESOME!!~~ 23 July 2001
By Patsy Nelson - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback
In this latest installment of the Madaris family stories, Ms. Jackson manages to bring a fresh new story with two very interesting people in Colonel Ashton Sinclair and Netherland Brooms. The sensual tension between the two is so strong you can feel it through the pages of the book.

The title lets you know that someone is going to have to SURRENDER, because although Ashton is in love with Netherland, she has vowed to never get involved with a military man since she grew up an army brat, moving around. It takes an awesome man like Ashton to change her mind.

In SURRENDER Ms. Jackson manages to tell a very captivating love story, full of romance and passion, and bring you up to date on characters from her previous stories in the Madaris family as well. She also manages to introduce a few new characters, all without missing a beat or taking away from the storyline. I started reading this book around 11 p.m. and found myself up reading all night because I could not put it down.

SURRENDER has the depth to stand alone, but after you read it, you will definitely want to read the previous books in this dynamite series. A list of the previous titles are listed in the front of the book. It wil be well worth it. This one is a definite keeper for the bookshelf.

5.0 out of 5 stars August Book Of The Month For Shades Of Romance Magazine 29 Aug 2001

Format:Mass Market Paperback
Get ready to Surrender If I could give this book a six star rating, I would have. Mrs. Jackson surpassed her usual great story telling and wrote a magnanimous story. "Surrender" was the Best of the Best. This book was a Family Reunion. All the Madaris' were present an accounted for. It felt like old home week. Brenda brought each member of the family up to date. I felt like I was hearing good news from members of my own family. Let me tell you when I picked up this book, I did not put it down until I was finished. I read well over into the night. It was worth any sleep that I lose, believe me. "Surrender" was sensational, intriguing, romantic, and just down right "HOT" (Imagine, an African-American/Cherokee, six foot male in a loincloth!!! Wow!!!!) It was the battle between the sexes. Colonel Ashton Sinclair, Of The United Stated Marines, against Netherland Blooms owner of the well known "Sisters Restaurant".
He wanted her from the very first time he saw her. She was attracted to him, but was reluctant to admit it, because she made a promise years before that she would not date or marry a military man. The magnetism between the two was most unique. I could feel their attraction pulling me from the pages of my book. I found myself laughing out loud and talking to the characters of the book. Ashton would come to "Sisters" every night and sit in the same spot and watch her work, while he had dinner. Netherland did every thing in her power to avoid him. Then came the big auction. Colonel Sinclair was the Main Attraction. Nettie, finally realizing her true feeling. She was determined she had to make the highest bid at the auction. The prize would be a weekend with the Colonel. If you have read the other sagas of the Madaris family and friends this book is a most. If you have not, my advice to you is to start looking now and buy the series, because you a missing out on the best reads of your life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book! 16 Nov 2001
By Alexia Dionne - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback
How am I supposed to sleep with writing like this? This is my first Brenda Jackson novel and I am hooked. I can't wait to read all of the others about the Madaris Family. This is the story of Ashton Sinclair and Netherland Brooms- a military colonel and the woman who swore she'd never date a military man. He SEDUCES her and you right along with him. There is reference to Native American culture that makes this quite different from other books I've read in this genre. The intricacy of the characters and the interesting subplots make this a multidimensional story that is well-worth the read. I would definitely recommend this to anyone interested in Arabesque novels.
