Product Description

Product Description

As final examinations approach, medical students often become overwhelmed by the sheer volume of knowledge required to pass all subjects in one go, including surgery, medicine, obstetrics and gynaecology, pharmacology, and psychiatry. Students cannot know each of these subjects in as much detail as they did during their individual attachments and they need to concentrate on important topics rather than minutiae. Whereas existing textbooks cover many topics very well and in great detail, they are lengthy and difficult to read in a short space of time; some subjects are poorly covered and give no real understanding of practical management and logical thought processes - the exact requirements for passing finals. In this second edition, each chapter has been extensively rewritten and updated with the help of experts in their respective subjects.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Have for Medical Students and Junior Doctors, 3 Jan 2006
By muresh (Nottingham) - See all my reviews
I read the reviews on line and ordered the book somewhat unsold on its merits. I tend to buy loads of textbooks when it comes to exams as none of them has everything and so I buy them all and spend ages picking the best bits of each. All that was before I came accross Surgical Talk. I havent bought a single surgical text since. This book is completely amazing and has helped me understand subjects that have for years remained confusing. I cant recommend it strongly enough. Do make notes on the spaces provided as this book will stay with you right through to postgraduate exams.

5.0 out of 5 stars An essential aid to passing Finals, 17 Sep 2005
This is a well written book that brings the subjects to life. You can actually read this book like a novel, and not want to put it down. I took it with me on my elective, and read it cover to cover, making notes. I rememeber wishing I had read it in Year 3 at Manchester. This book got me through Finals, and comes highly recommended. I even found it useful through my PRHO year, and re-read chapters before my first week of nights. Even as an SHO I pick it up, and I intend to purchase the 2nd edition. Money well spent, and an essential aid to getting through medical school. Thank you, Andrew Goldberg.

5.0 out of 5 stars A pleasant Suprize, 17 Mar 2005
By A Customer
I brought this book on a whim after reading a review of it here on amazon not really expecting much but was amazed to find this book does exactly what it says on the tin - it covers pretty much all the surgery you need for finals in a really easily readable format (and believe me, thats something coming from me!) and gives loads of handy tips for exams. My advice is if you have finals coming up buy it - even if you think the surgical book you already have is good enough, buy it anyway!
