Product Description

Review

"Rating ∗ ∗ ∗ ∗ ∗. Excellent! Great value for money."

Cambridge Medicine, Addenbrooke′s Clinical Medical School

"This book should appeal to those who like to access information with the least effort...good for cementing and organising your knowledge...does effectively what its forebears do for undergraduate subjects: simplify, illustrate and explain in a user–friendly format"

2nd Opinion, The Magazine of the Scottish Medical Schools

"This book is ideal for finals as diagrams help the revision–numbed mind to retain information. It is extremely quick and easy to read and the list–based information is an ideal basis for short–answer questions."

Barts and the London Chronicle

"This delightful book is the latest in the At a Glance series and only the second on a purely clinical subject...The quality of the diagrams is such that for the majority of the topics the text is almost superfluous."

British Journal of Surgery

"...offers clinical students a valuable resource and revision aid for general surgery and other surgical areas that are likely to be seen in finals. Each of the 76 chapters consist of definitions, common causes, clinical features, investigations, and management; a useful strategy that can be applied to most clinical problems."

Student BMJ

2nd Opinion, The Magazine of the Scottish Medical Schools

This book should appeal to those who like to access information with the least effort.

"Surgery at a glance" successfully achieves it's goal of providing simple, yet complete, information on the most important topics in general surgery. The accompanying illustrations act to clarify the text and provide the reader with a visual stimulus to memorise the topic for exam purposes.

The book is efficiently laid out, with each double page spread covering one topic area. The topics are divided into clinical complaints and surgical diseases, making it quick and practical, and useful in both hospital and revision settings.

I highly recommend this book for those medical students approaching finals; it provides one with the essentials for planning a top class essay, and a logical approach to presenting complaints as might be found in the clinical examination.

Just what I needed coming up to those last few nail-biting weeks before clinical finals. Succint, clear and extremely readable and what's more important tells you all you NEED to know. I passed!!!

This is a surprisingly good way to refresh yourself on a whole load of information before exams or clinics. The layout is good - section one goes through symptoms, section two focusses on diseases. Each topic has a full double page spread with diagrams on the left and text on the right. Pages are clean and spread out so you can fill the space with your own jottings. Most of the pertinent information you need is there but it doesn't give you anything extra. The diagrams are generally pretty useful and tend not to fall into the common trap of being far too busy.

This is not a book from which to learn all of surgery in depth but you want a quick, no fluff, whizz through surgery with the important points highlighted, this is the book for you.
