Book Description

15 Aug 2012 Lifecaps Presents
Jay Moriarity was a big wave surfer whose positive spirit, relentless dedication, and respect for his sport earned him the admiration of the entire surfing world. Although, he lost his life just one day before his 23rd birthday, he is still an inspiration to not just the surfing community, but to countless people that he met in his life. This book examines his life, but more importantly, it also examines Mavericks and surfing; to understand his life, it's important to understand what he actually did and why; along with a biography on Moriarity, this book also presents an introduction to surfing. LifeCaps is an imprint of BookCaps™ Study Guides. With each book, a lesser known or sometimes forgotten life is recapped. We publish a wide array of topics (from baseball and music to literature and philosophy), so check our growing catalogue regularly to see our newest books.

2.0 out of 5 stars Ridiculously short book 3 May 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This book is little more than 50 pages long, it takes very basic information from surfing culture to explain some very simple elements of surfing and points out information about Jay that is widly available on the internet. It provides very little real insight in the few pages actually about Jay and detracts from what could have a been a fascinating if tragic story. Overall its just too short the information included looks like its been pulled from surfing editorials and loosly hung together. Not recommended sadly.

I would recommend this book to anyone that has seen the movie or read the book Surfing Mavericks. Great follow up with additional details not in the book or movie. I love it

5.0 out of 5 stars A strong and factual read... 24 Sep 2013
By Jan - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This book provided the facts that I was seeking surrounding Jay's unfortunate passing. For the surfer and non surfer alike it provides good details of what it takes to ride these 50 foot monster waves in cold and dark northern California waters.

5.0 out of 5 stars Interesting look at an interesting guy 20 Jan 2013
By EmmaC - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I enjoyed the movie "Chasing Mavericks," but this book provided a lot of details that were left out of the movie. If you want to know a bit more about Jay and how he got ready to surf the big waves, this is a good choice!

5.0 out of 5 stars A truly inspiring story 11 Jun 2013

After I saw Chasing Mavericks, my family and I did an Internet search during the credits to see who Jay Moriarity was. I found a link to this book and had to download it. I finished it in about a day. It gave me a beginners guide to surfing and showed me a glimpse into his life and the legacy he left behind.
Even if you know nothing about surfing (like me) I highly suggest this book as a way to encourage you to find your passion and pursue it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good short read 26 Nov 2012

Although I really liked this book. I feel it's a little bit of a waste as basically it's just a shorter version of the actual book. Just covers the main points.
