5.0 out of 5 stars Get your Surface in use immediately! 25 Jan. 2015

I am told by friends this is THE reference book if you are new to Surface (which ever model you have). I am sure they a right. I am working through it with my Surface turned on. My brother-in-law read it in cover to cover on a flight from Washington and was able to comprehensively use his Surface as soon as he arrived home. I think this is a sign of a really good manual - that which ever way you use it - it turns the machine (Surface with 8.1) into a useable computer "instantly". In fact the 'for Dummies' series has never failed me yet right from DOS based systems!!

Without this book I might as well have left my new Surface in the box, since I wasn't "getting it". After just a few minutes with "Surface for Dummies" I was on the road to a little understanding, and after 2 months with both in hand, I'm now using the Surface with some degree of confidence.

As far as I can tell, this is the only book available for the Surface. Found it helped the transition from using a PC with Windows XP to this very different software.

1.0 out of 5 stars nothing about the Surface Pro 3 18 Feb. 2015
By Jay D. - Published on
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I have a new Surface Pro 3. This book does not talk about the 3. The differences between 2 and 3 are sufficient to seriously degrade the value of
this book. If I owned an older Surface, the book would be great.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a great book for learning the Surface Tablet and Windows 8.1. 27 Jun. 2014
By Ralph E. Vaughn - Published on
The book covers just about everything you need to know for a Surface Tablet and using the touchscreen interface. It goes through the Surface Pro 2 and Windows 8.1. However, Microsoft has already started shipping the Surface Pro 3. Mr. Rathbone will be kept busy just keeping up with the various releases of the Surface Tablet.

I think most everything in the book can be related to the new Surface Pro 3. Good Book.
