“SHORT STORIES FROM A GENERATION CONSUMED BY VANITY, SELF-INDULGENCE AND A TWISTED UNDERSTANDING OF LOVE AND HEARTBREAK”

Dean Blake has once again demonstrated his mastery of the art of storytelling in this much-anticipated collection of short stories.

From a satirical tale of a group of teenagers who crave nothing but perfection to a horrific account of a young man who claims to eat people, Surface Children introduces its readers to a generation consumed by vanity, self-indulgence, violence and a twisted understanding of love and heartbreak.

Addictive, funny, brave and sometimes heartbreaking, Surface Children is said to be Dean Blake’s most significant work to date.

BONUS SHORT STORIES AND APPEARANCES

Fans of Dean’s earlier work can expect appearances from Eva, Jude, Vail, and other personalities from Generation End and Always Eighteen. It also contains excerpts from his life as a self-destructive, struggling novelist.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Book Of Short Stories I’ve Read In A Long Time 23 Oct. 2013
By Andrew Oei - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Now that I’ve finally finished Surface Children, I can safely say that it’s entertained me much more than I thought it would. Each LOOSELY connected story ranges from humorous to bizarre to slightly twisted – each story is written from the point of view from a young adult and focuses on themes of vanity, love and desperation. My favourite stories in Surface Children would be The Things We Do For Those Who Don’t Love Us, What Happened To Valentine’s Day and The Worst Thing Jude Has Ever Done (this one is kind of messed up). You can actually read a lot of Dean’s work (including What Happened To Valentine’s Day and another story, Los Angeles Angie) for free on his website at generationend.com.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing collection of short stories 19 Nov. 2013
By Abe - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
These short stories paint a troubling picture of a generation of young people that are the result of self-help books, social media, and absent parents. Often times bleak, pessimistic, and sometimes horrific, it is lifted and bound by romantic vignettes that somehow provide hope in our 'Generation End'.

Written with growing confidence, this book of short stories, parables, blog posts and heartbreak is very highly recommended.

Perhaps the best of Dean' s excellent writings. Dean let us understand what it is to be a youthful soul in today's world. I hang on to Dean's way of story-telling and those characters lingers in my mind. Kudos Dean - I will not be surprised that this wonderful collection of short stories will be discussed in forums.
