This is one of the books that fits into the Can't Put Down Category, from start to finish it is non-stop thrilling action, but not only that, it seems to be very real, and unlike the poor Alex Rider series or the CHERUBs or a large number of other books, you could almost believe is happening right now!
Following Rich and Jade who struggle to adapt when moving in with thier previously unknown father after thier mother dies, it sees them discover a whole new world and puts them in completely out of thier depth, despite which with quick thinking they manage to avoid the danger which is ever present as they travel across Europe to find thier father.

I loves me a bandwagon, especially the one were noted authors of adult fiction try their hand at the lucrative children's fiction market. Wait a minute! That's not right; I actually find it highly annoying that authors would waste precious writing time on producing lite fiction. However, some authors write in a pretty simplistic style anyway. Jack Higgins is one such writer. Most of his books appear to have the same storyline and revolve around people with surnames hitting one another. He could quite easily adapt his straight forward narratives for children. Perhaps he will need to remove some of the gratuitous violence and nudity though?
`Sure Fire' is the first in a series of novels Higgins wrote with Justin Richards about twins Rich and Jade Chase. Book 1 starts with their mother dying and meeting the father they never knew existed. Once it is established that not is all as it seems with Papa Chase, the pace never drops. There is a delicate balance with `Sure Fire' that Higgins and Richards just manage to pull off. The style is certainly Higgins inspired as the action is full on and a lot of people do get shot. However, there is not the level of gratuity you may expect from the author. That is not to say some adults will be a little put out by their children reading about so many gunfights.
The other balance the book just achieves is between treating the audience with the right level of intelligence, experience and respect. The storyline is a simple one and the twist obvious, even to younger readers. However, Higgins and Richards do use some interesting words and powerful sequences that should get young minds asking questions. The majority of the book is classic cheesy Higgins and men with surnames do hit one another. However, the heart of the story is the Chase family dynamic and this lifts it into a reasonable read. The book is not on par with the Young Bond novels, but is still a reasonable read.

Although I enjoyed this book I felt that it seemed a bit unrealistic! The main characters have no special skills but manage to fight off 100s of armed soldiers and escape seemingly impossible situations! The book is enjoyable though if you can suspend your belief for a bit. Prefer Chris Ryan & Alex Ryder series though. Would recommend for ages 10+
