5.0 out of 5 stars A holiday delight! 4 Jan 2009
By Ros
Format:Hardcover
I came across this book in a book shop whilst on holidays in Los Angeles. (I'm an Australian living in Sweden presently.... and the bird life in Sweden is quite sparce.) I only wish I had read the book beforehand, I might have been able to take advantage of the information and add a few sightings to my own bird list.
I found it a wonderful read... could hardly put the book down. Makes me keener than ever to get out birding.....
Is especially good for people who are into bird watching, but an entertaining book for anyone who enjoys adventure, nature, and or travelling with friends.
It is akin to "the Big Twitch" by Sean Dooley for those interested.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great read! 2 April 2011
Format:Paperback
I thought this book is wonderful, but I have to say that I am a keen birder from the UK who has visited many of the places and seen many of the birds described in the book. The narrative captures nicely the sense of adventure and fulfillment, not to mention the great fun, that Luke and his co-birders Don and Donna Graffiti have travelling around the states. I can't honestly believe that that's their real names though!
Luke is a good writer, he lets drop that he did English at Oxford, and the whole book flows well. It isn't just about birds and birding, its about the places and the other little adventures that the trio have, and also about his own personal life. A great read, for anyone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Twitchingly entertaining 16 July 2011
Format:Paperback
A great read for any birder and an entertaining read for anyone else. Luke Dempsey combines his love of birding with the revelation of his developing affair with the USA in a witty and touching way. His self-deprecating humour should go down well with anyone who shares his balanced and genuinely confused passage through life.

A compulsive read that won't last more than a day or two in your hands. You'll be looking around for his next effort straight away.

3.0 out of 5 stars to much personal life in the book. 15 Mar 2014
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Maybe I expected to much, maybe all birding books concentrate on more birding details and I have been used to in the past

4.0 out of 5 stars Very enjoyable book 2 July 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I thoroughly enjoyed this book - strictly speaking about chasing birds in the USA - it is as much about friendship and relationships and as such would appeal to both birders and non-birders alike

4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting book 10 Feb 2013
By Karin1
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Interesting book, but concentrates more on his relationship with his daughters. Would have been more informative if more birding facts contained.
