It is all the more poignant that these stories are retold here by a man of de la Billiere's stature (DAILY EXPRESS )

Admirable ... will sustain the morale of several nations (SPECTATOR )

SUPREME COURAGE makes a fascinating read for anyone with even the slightest interest in military history. (IRELAND EVENING HERALD )

This is a book that demonstrates in clear, soldierly language, just why, despite out age of rampant iconoclasm, the British armed forces still retain the nation's affection and respect. (MAIL ON SUNDAY )

This is a must read for anyone interested in military history or just to hear the most incredible stories of selfless courage quite literally against the odds. When you read about Noel Chavasse, I defy you not to have tears in your eyes. A great job by General de la Billiere!

I bought this book for my father and he loved it, as did my husband and our next door neighbour. A really good selection of some of the most heroic actions ever!

These sories of the men who won the Victoria Cross are exceptional accounts of human achievement in the face of unimaginable odds. The fact that so few have ever been awarded is testament to the levels of bravery required, and three people have been awarded it twice!!
The ordinary men who did the extra-ordinary is compelling reading and you can't help but feel that there are other such stories that could have also been included.
The only thing stopping me from giving this 5 stars is the writing style. It's not poor by any means but De La Billiere is an ex-soldier not an author. However, the power of the story overcomes his weakness and keeps you gripped.
A must for anyone with an interest in military history or exceptional human feats.
