Product Description

Supertramp s Breakfast In America was the biggest selling album in the world in 1979. It spawned several hit singles and went on to win two Grammy Awards and sell in excess of 20 million copies. Following the album s release Supertramp embarked on a 10 month world tour which arrived in Paris at the end of November. This show from the Pavillon de Paris was both filmed and recorded. The audio went on to form the basis of the 1980 live album Paris but the film was never released. Now for the first time, transferred and restored to full HD from the original 16mm film, this footage is available to Supertramp s legion of fans worldwide. The concert features the different song-writing styles of Roger Hodgson and Rick Davies, who each composed the songs on which they sing lead vocals. The sound has been remixed by Peter Henderson and Supertramp s original sound engineer Russel Pope from the original multi-tracks and is presented in both stereo and 5.1 surround sound. This is a legendary show by a legendary band performing at their absolute peak and is a must for any Supertramp fan. 5.0 out of 5 stars Simply Brilliant!! 12 Sep 2012

Finally I get to see the concert i've only been able to listen to these past 33yrs. One of the best live albums ever released. And it's been cranked up a notch with the release of this Blu Ray. The sound on the Blu Ray has been wonderfully remixed & it sounds fantastic. The film itself has been made to look really good considering it's age & the poor state it was found in. Only very occasionally are you reminded that it's well over 30yrs old. This is Supertramp in their pomp & all the hits are here. Any Supertramp fan should pick up a copy of this & sit back, crank up the volume & enjoy. This release has been too long in coming. Was it worth the wait...hell yes!!

I've been fortunate to see a couple of preview tracks and this Blu-ray promises to deliver what all Supertramp fans have wanted to see since the 1979 World tour. As Supertramp have said Crime Of The Century marked their creative pinnacle and Breakfast In America marked their commercial pinnacle. Filmed in the months after the release of Breakfast in America this concert captures the classic line-up with Roger Hodgson and Rick Davies bringing together their rich talents to form the nucleus of what many regard as one of the best ever British rock groups. Sadly, the early 1980s marked the eventual parting of the ways between Roger and the rest of the group and things were never the same for Supertramp after Hodgson's departure. Therefore this concert represents Supertramp at their best.

Although the Paris concert was filmed and recorded on 1st December 1979, it wasn't until July 2006 that the original master tapes of the album were rediscovered in the barn of the band's drummer Bob Siebenberg, along with video footage, not seen since the time of recording. The tapes were sent to Cups 'N Strings Studios in Santa Monica, California, for digital remastering. The tapes were initially in bad technical shape, but were successfully transferred. The video was sent to Peter Clifton, the creator of Led Zeppelin's 1973 concert film The Song Remains the Same, in New Zealand, for further editing.

If it wasn't for Supertramp, back in the mid to late 70's I might have been turned off of music forever. They were THE musical bright spot for me during my high school years. Everything else back then was just 100% crap. That's why when this concert was made available, I just had to have it. I was never able to see the band live...until now.

The sound was incredible!!! There wasn't a single moment during the entire concert that I couldn't hear each distinctive note of every instrument!! I have never EVER heard sound of that quality before!!! Hats off to the sound production.

I really felt like I was there. When the film went to long range shots, yes it got a little grainy...but it added a realistic element for me...like I was in the back of the crowd, dancing about.

The only shame for me was the DVD "extras"...since it would have been so much better if they could have had more live footage, or time, or money to make the concert complete. However, the sound on those additional five songs was of the same incredible quality as the rest of the production!

I saw Roger live a couple of years ago in a very intimate setting, and he was truly amazing. However, the contrast of Rick's music was something that show lacked. This trip back in time to Paris (where I'd never been) has completed me.

5.0 out of 5 stars All good things come to those that wait... 9 Sep 2012
By smash
...and boy have we waited! I remember wearing out my Supertramp tapes in our old family Alfasud and on my old Toshiba walkman. Listening to classic Supertramp tracks can unlock very precious memories for me. So what of this concert? Much has been made of "at their peak" - all I can say if this wasn't their peak then the peak must've been at god level because frankly the musicianship and sheer ability to recreate such classic songs as demonstrated here is exemplary. This is 1979, it's all analog, no samplers but the band demonstrate just what a cohesive and full sound 5 people at the very top of their game can make. Moments of this DVD make my hairs stand on end. Can't comment on 5.1 - I'm listening on a Yamaha 2.1 set-up and it sounds fabulous.

John Helliwell is the band jester and is clearly enjoying the show interjecting with possibly the most cheesey intros to songs ever but it's all good natured.

Neither Rick Davies nor Roger Hodgson would ever reach the creative heights of what they achieved in Supertramp after going solo. This is a fantastic testament to a superbly original band - and I'm going to say it - at their peak. Imensely enjoyable and an essential element of any Supertramp fans collection.

I have been a Supertramp since the mid 70's and saw the classic line - up at Plymouth ABC and Wembley Arena and have seen Rick ,John and Bob's Supertamp a few times and Roger both solo and with band......and will carrying on going to see them as long as they perform shows......This release will please all Supertramp fan's, it's taken almost 33 years for us to see it and yes, it's worth the wait....Peter Henderson and Russell Pope have done an amazing restoration job.
I have read Roger's 'rant' about this release and have to say that I just can't share his opinion this time......the DVD is fantastic, this is Supertramp at their very best, the quality of their musicianship is obvious and to describe them as well-drilled is a real understatement. Highly recommended.....
