A lot of people have been saying that this kind of thing is backward looking. Dash weh!! A lot of people say some of us think that things went wrong at the end of the 1970's when it came to reggae. Well, Prince Jammy and King Tubby (RIP Osbourne Ruddock!) jumped on the digital bandwagon and it derailed the sound completely. All sorts of reasons exist for the demise of musicianship, melody, conscious lyrics, harmony, spirituality and IRIE VIBES inna reggae groove, but it happened. Seriously, how shocking is it that a baldhead from Brighton comes up with the FRESHEST, wickedest rhythms this century?!! This is a monster of an album - absolute murderation! We saw Little Roy at the Lambeth County show a couple of years back and it was a joy to hear him perform again. I bought Columbus Ship in 1981 - 30 years ago - OUCH! And to hear him singing Christopher Columbus on this album you'd think not a day had passed. Seriously, as Rodigan used to bawl "When dis riddim a run - mek an old man feel YOUNG!" We've been playing that one tune all afternoon with the windows wide open and the volume on 11. Give thanks. Brilliant stuff. The production values, arrangements, horn section and choice of vocalists are all stellar. Hats off to Prince Fatty. Rope in some more superstar vocalists and DJ's and carry the sound FORWARD! The likes of Buju Banton and Sizzla have been getting away with carrying the banner for reggae too long. More of this please!

Wonderful follow up to Survival of the fattest, which to these ears is an improvement on that classic debut. Beautiful production and sublime vocals from the legends that are Winston Francis and Little Roy. Big up to Holly Cook and Horseman for their great contributions too! The Prince Fatty Riddim section has got the classic 70's and early 80's sound down to a tee.A nice mix of channel one style rockers and classic UK lovers rock, as well as a little something for the old school dubheads. Critics may argue that this is simply replicating stuff from decades ago, but when it sounds this sweet, who cares! Already looking forward to the next instalment. If you don't know get to know!
