Book Description

9 Jun 2011
It's the hot genre of the decade so far, and now Colin Wilson lends his weight to the subject of the Supernatural, in this far-reaching encyclopedia of whole spectrum of supernatural phenomena from ghosts and poltergeists to reincarnation, and from precognition and 'psychic detection' to magic and demonic possession. In these pages we meet real-life vampires, doppelgangers, witches and magicians; and we learn about elemental theory, Odic forces, Atlantis, ley lines, UFOs, crop circles, Velikovsky's 'worlds in collision' theory of the origins of the planet Venus - and much else besides. Anyone who loves the mystery and excitement of vampires, werewolves, psychics and other supernatural occurrences will enjoy this book. An authoritative yet entertaining author, Colin Wilson tells you everything you ever needed to know in a book that you'll love to read.

4.0 out of 5 stars The first and last word on the subject 8 July 2011
By Cardew Robinson TOP 1000 REVIEWER
Format:Paperback
A true doyen of writers on unexplained and supernatural phenomena, Colin Wilson does it yet again with this fascinating and encyclopedic breakdown of the subject.

Wilson's range of reading and knowledge is vast, and he brings the full weight of a whole career's worth of knowledge to bear in this entertaining and informative volume.

If you take this subject seriously then you are bond to learn a lot from this book and get a lot of food for thought. However, even sceptics will be entertained by this volume.

This book is also a good introduction to Wilson's work as a whole. Take a look at his other books listed on these pages and you'll see he's written a lot over the years on psychology and the unexplained. He's a thought provoking writer whose work, even if you don't end up fully agreeing with its conclusions, is still worth getting to know.

4.0 out of 5 stars Supernatural superbook, 7 July 2012
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Anything written by Colin Wilson will have a space on my shelves.I have been an admirer of his work since The Outsider hit the bookstores. If I have one complaint about this one it is the presentation and NOT the content.

This is a book containing much of the research he has done over the years on the Occult and has now brought it all together. His no nonsense approach to the subject and his ability to stand back and look at his research in a balanced and considered way has always been his strong point. His disregards the glamour surrounding the subject and goes directly to the heart of it. Highly recommended

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent 18 Dec 2011
By Walter F. Billings - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
This book is a compilation of several of the author's previous books and was put together in the 1990s. However, it is the best synopsis on this subject that could be put together, by this well known and astute author.

I felt that this book is an excellent collection of Mr. Wilson's thoughts and research covering the last forty years or so. It is highly informative and an easy read, while holding your interest for each and every chapter.

I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in this subject, and it is a subject that eventually, will effect each and everyone of us.

5.0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive, illuminating, and educational 19 Feb 2012
By String - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
We owe a debt to Colin Wilson for his continued pursuit of truth and insight into this complicated, misunderstood and relatively taboo subject. It could be argued that Colin Wilson is a true mage of words. During the reading of this excellent book I experienced multiple synchronicity moments with enlightenment on critical areas of my own creativity, life and corresponding work. He treats his subject matter fairly, with humility and clarity, and is open to reviewing his earlier theories due to new insights or evidence. Colin Wilson books are tomes of treasure and this one particularly so for the serious student or novice alike. For me this was a `magical' book which ultimately reflected my introspection and personal enlightenment on a number of `supernatural' subjects at precisely the time I read it and is highly recommended.

Disappointing is the first word that comes to mind.
This book did not entertain, provoke thought, nor even cause a curious question to come to mind.
This book will be at the resale shop real soon. Not worth keeping in library.
