By ROROBLU'S MUM TOP 500 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE

Firstly, in terms of value for money, this is a book of some 471 pages, with three favourite authors of mine and one who I used to like, and for the price paid, it is SO worth it.

The Larissa Ione is the first in the book and the second longest tale, which is set in the joint worlds of Demonica and the Lords of Deliverance and is possibly the hottest tale of the lot. It's about Daywalker Nathan, a vampire who is cursed to be able to walk in the sun, thereby not being able to end his life by this method, who has been waiting patiently for centuries, managing a fight-club for the man responsible for the loss of his mate, in order to be able to have his vengeance. The club is infiltrated by Lena, a hyena-shifter who cannot shift, who is a nurse at UG, whose brother has been killed at the club, and who goes undercover to find out what happened...and the two end up as mates. A fast-paced, all-action, hot and sexy tale with at least 2/3 scorching sex scenes and a HEA, and on top, we get to see most of the male leads from the previous tales, which for me always earns bonus points. 5*

The Alexanda Ivy tale comes directly after Devoured By Darkness, and features Laylah's mother Kata as the female lead, and Uriel, the second-in-command of Victor, the clan chief of London as the male lead. He was tortured and `marked' by a Jinn centuries ago and has always hated them, but he is sent to rescue Kata, whose daughter was a result of her mating with a Jinn during her centuries of captivity. Quite a fast paced-tale, with non-stop action, more mention of The Child that Laylah was so focussed on protecting, the introduction of a possible new side-character, but for me, as it featured none of the other previous leads, it lacked a little something. The one sex scene in this came at the very end, due to the nature of the tale, and was...sensual rather than erotic. 3*

The Jacquelyn Frank tale was my least favourite, as her tales IMHO, got too convoluted and lengthy when I stopped reading her, just after Noah and the first in her The Gatherers series. This is an addition to her The Nightwalkers series and was ok for me, as it did have a storyline and the couple were true mates, and yes, there were brief glimpses of Jacob and Noah, but the lead's `thing' was mind-control, which he actually used on the female lead several times, to manipulate matters to his convenience. I think Coercion is the word, and yes, he got punished for it and redeemed himself a time when he could have pressed his advantage, and yes, it had some hot and heavy stuff, but for me, that `world' is no longer one that I enjoy. 3*

The GA Aiken (Shelley Laurenston) Dragon tale was an utter hoot. It is set in her Dragon Kin series and features a warrior female dragon (Bercelak's sister) tasked with escorting a diplomat - a rather bookish, highborn dragon male with seduction on his mind, through dangerous territory. This was SO much better than the last full-length novel in this series, Last Dragon Standing, and had lots of slapstick, romance, lots of violent fighting, some very hot and descriptive sex and an actual proper story, as well as being funny. In fact, we get to see their epilogue many years down the line, complete with many warrior-children, and they are still each doing their own nothing-in-common-jobs, but they are still very much in love. Hot, sexy, fast-paced and very funny. 5*

Supernatural Fun! 12 Oct 2011

Great taster of all four authors. Love G.A. Aiken. Great addition to her Dragon Kin series. Can be read as a stand alone story, but if you know the other characters it is even better.

Excellent collection of novellas from established authors/series... 30 Aug 2011
By Jackie-the-Greyhound - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
A trend has been for 3-5 established authors getting together and publishing novella length stories set in 'worlds' already written. I will leave the plot summaries to others as well as the publisher's blurb (too easy for me to give spoilers in the shorter works...), but I would like to point out what I think makes a good entry into this kind of publication.

First, are the authors GOOD? By that I mean is their writing well done enough that they can get a full feel in terms of plot/emotions/characters all compressed into a shorter work. By using characters (new or otherwise) they do have a little easier time, but still it can be difficult to make the reader care when there is less time to set the story.

Second, are the stories good? Kind of the off shoot from number 1...not only are the authors skilled, but do they actually pull it off? Do I care about the characters? Do I care what happens?

Third, if it's a series I've read does the story fit in the context of the series, have the same feel, maybe even pull in a few loose ends?

Fourth, if it's a series I've not read, does the story make sense to me without having read the others? And more importantly, does it make me want to go read the rest of them?

Fifth, are all or most of the stories good enough to give satisfactory answers to the above? Reading an anthology where you only enjoy one or two of the stories is just a disappointment!

Sooo, how did this one do? Of the 4 authors/series I'd only read Larissa Ione's Demonica and Lords of Deliverance series (and somehow I hear banjos when I read that title) which are connected. Her entry here involves a minor character from her Demonica series, but also brings in some history of her Deliverance books (ne-ne ne-ne ne-ner), but we do see some old favorites. I really enjoyed this and felt like it was very well done and loved how it fit with her other works. A+!

Next, I also very, very much enjoyed G. A. Aiken's entry. I've read her work as her alter ego Shelley Laurentson (Magnus Pack, Pride series) and loved those. Now I've had a taste of the GA Aiken/dragons I now have yet another series to add to the top of my 'read this next' list.

The Jacquelyn Frank and Alexandra Ivy stories were also most excellent and also have piqued my interest in the rest of their books as well, just a hair less than Aiken's, but not by much--and others may have different tastes of course.

In other words this anthology met all my requirements--which might actually be a problem because that just added a ton to my reading list.

Highly Recommended!!

A variety of stars... 4 Sep 2011
By GypsyReader - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Hmm... how do you rate an anthology that has everything from a 5 star story to a 1 star story?

5 stars: Aiken's Dragon story. Loved it. Trademark humor and whimsy and a complete and satisfying love story. What more can you ask for?

4 stars: Ione's contribution was very strong.. particularly since the last short story I read by her was quite weak, and I was expecting more of the same (the one about the Aegis who is turned into a vampire? Weak.). I enjoyed visiting my favorite demon brother's and their world and thought the story was pretty well done. Honestly I think Ione does MUCH MUCH MUCH better with full length stories but this was the best shorter length effort I've read by her so far.

2 Stars... Alexandra Ivy's story was bad. The love story was not believable. It was another (unfortunately prevalent in the genre) case of "we're mates so we love each other" with no actual evidence of any real connection between the characters except for sex. And don't even get me started on the logic of the tied souls thing... there was no logic--- trying to find any will result in a migraine. There's a reason I don't read this author, and all this story did was confirm that good choice. STILL... I FINISHED IT, so it gets two stars.

1 star... Oy. I couldn't even finish Frank's story. And I've read a few of her novels (and promptly forgotten them, as they weren't memorable) but I didn't have a bad impression of her until this story. This was just... so regurgitated and so trite it was a chore to read... so I finally just gave up. It's one loooooooong sex scene... if that's your taste in reading... this is the story for you, I need more. Ultimately, I knew the characters would end up together and frankly I didn't care enough about either of them to read how they got there.

Hmm... now, how to rate this. I'm giving it three stars... if you love Aiken and Ione this is a decent buy, and I don't regret the purchase.

50/50 but worth it... 3 Sep 2011

3.5 Stars overall; I liked two of the stories much more than the other two.

4 Stars for Vampire Fight Club. Lena the nurse we already knew from the Demonica series, and Nate is apparantly slated to be at least a minor character when Thanatos' book in Lords of Deliverance #3 (Lethal Rider) comes out in June 2012. Lena is trying to infiltrate a vampire fight club to find out what or who killed her brother, a hyena shifter. It was an interesting ss, well thought out and paced for the amount of space alloted. If you are keeping up with the two series, you will really like it. Lots of familiar characters. Hope to see more of both of them in Lethal Rider.

3 Stars for Darkness Eternal. It was a pretty good story. I no longer keep up with the Guardians of Eternity series (too formulaic); but this story kept my interest in Kata and Uriel's story/mission.

2.5 Stars for Kane. This ss went all the way back to the first book of the Nightwalkers series for its roots. This is another series that I eventually lost interest in, but I do like Franks new Three Worlds series (a lot). My main problem with this ss is that nothing much really happens; and as Melindeeloo says, it's really just one long drawn-out sex scene.

4 Stars for Dragon on Top. It made me laugh, and as a peace keeping diplomat, the H was a little different for a Aiken dragon. Ghleanna could have been interchanged with any one of her quirky Calawaldr dragon family, but I really liked Bram. He was ultimately a very good influence on Ghleanna. Cute, funny, and a quite charming little story.
