"The Play On" was the very first Fleetwood Mac album that I bought - way back when it was first released. I played it almost constantly for about a month, and listening to the album now - as then - makes clear that the band enjoyed a unique chemistry, featuring three first-class guitar players, backed up by a faultless bass and drums/percussion. I was never fortunate enough to see the band play live, but it was clear from the tracks "Searching For Madge" and "Fighting For Madge" that they greatly enjoyed - and were superbly good at - jamming together, with the Danny Kirwan-Peter Green combination in particular producing some marvellously melodic duets as well as fair-blistering two-part lead lines. And then, just the other day, I stumbled across the "Supernatural" anthology, with it's utterly stunning 24+ minute live version of "Rattleshake Snake", with equally impressive live versions of "The Green Manalishi", "Black Magic Woman" and many more. It's a truly amazing collection, and I've played it every day since I downloaded it!
