This graphic novel collects issues of the superman comics from, in my opinion, the 1990's heyday (roughly 1992-1996) when superman stories were diverse, engaging and full of plot twists. This story includes the 50th issue of Superman:Man Of Steel. Basicaly, Superman is captured by an intergalactic tribunal, which believes in an extreme form of original sin, in that all people are responsible for the actions and sins of their ancestors. Superman is arrested for his ancestor's role in the death of all other Kryptonians when Krypton exploded, but Superman understandably doesn't agree, so breaks out of jail and goes on the run! He ends up with a whole host of odd criminals, not all of whom are as guilty as you might think. Meanwhile on Earth a rescue squad of Superboy, Supergirl, Steel and newcomer Alpha Centurion head off into space to rescue Superman.
The story is great, the artwork is variable but overall quite decent, and the characters are fun; the return of a serious past villain is a good twist. The onlylet down is Mope, an irritating character that (unsuprisingly) mopes around a lot and gets in the way al the time; his final fate is a relief. You don't need to know much about Superman's past stories to enjoy this, so definitley a good buy.

This is one of the best Superman compilations ever written..Having read most of the compilation DC books or Graphic novels even hinting at the appearence of Superman, I've often held out hope of reading something as gripping as The Return of Superman.this book is as good as if not better than The Return of Superman. The plot revolves around our hero being abuducted and sent to trial by a group of aliens called the Tribunal.Charged with a major crime the story follows how Superman (being a law abiding citizen) deals with this. Featuring a all star cast (Supergirl,Superboy,Steel, The Eradicator but to mention a few) this is a gripping read from start to finnish. Not only is the story fantastic but the art work is some of the best Superman artwork I've seen in a long time..Dont wait a second longer..buy this book now.

If you missed out on the Trail of Superman when it was in the comics, then buy it now and learn why Superman is such a great comic book.

Setups are everything! This one was not good. How does a tribunal of vigilantes go about the galaxy and capture alleged (by them)criminals without regard to the rule of law including Superman? Fortunately, there is plenty of galaxy-spanning action with excellent artwork on slick pages. Still, the setup needed to be better.
