The theatrical serials on this Superman DVD are a genuine attempt to portray the Superman of the DC comic books on the cinema screen. By and large they succeed, apart from the fact that when Superman flies he is shown (limited by the technology of the day) in cartoon form. Kirk Alyn is likeable as Superman, although my own favourite was George Reeves. Unlike the George Reeves Superman TV series, however, the Kirk Alyn Superman emulates many of the dramatic stunts of the comic books: he stops trains, he single-handedly supports a failing bridge, and so on. As typical of the cinema serials of the time, each fifteen minute episode ends with a cliffhanger. A must for any Superman fan.
