Product Description

This thrilling full-cast original radio drama is based on the long-running comic strip. Whilst Daily Planet lovebirds Clark Kent and Lois Lane finally get engaged, the villainous Lex Luthor dies in a plane crash. Metropolis is thriving with prosperity and happiness under Superman's care - or so it seems....

Produced by Dirk Maggs, who directed the recent new episodes of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, this production is hugely acclaimed by fans.

Great Fun! 6 Sep 2006
Format:Audio CD
For fans of the "death of Superman" comics (a story arc universally praised as being one of the best in Superman's long history) this is a real treat with a lot of the dialogue lifted straight from the comic books. The voices actors are all excellent and, despite the comments of one previous reviewer, are actually American (the main principals are all US actors/actresses). It rattles along at a cracking pace and the action never flags. The only slight criticism I do have is that Lois's grief is hardly touched upon and this was handled with a lot more poignancy in the comic book. I wondered how they would describe the four different Supermen (in the Return of Superman section) but it was very well done indeed and not at all confusing. Lex Luthor's Australian accent was the only bit which wasn't performed very well and grated on the ear, but this small niggle aside, the acting was otherwise excellent. A most enjoyable way to spend 2 and a half hours! I only wish the CD had proper chapter/track headings. Definitely worth a look and I can recommend it highly!

After reading the what I feel was unfair review, I thought I'd add my opinion (This is based on the taped version) I really enjoyed the adaptation of the comics saga that went through The Death of Superman and the Return of Superman (It doesn't really touch on world without a Superman).

The cast do a good job of re-enacting the story in an entertaining and enjoyable way, of course they have to say what they're doing at times, but thats the limitation of a radio play.

Between this and the comic this will have to do until they ever decide to put it on cinema.

Soon grates 6 July 2006
By C. Copp VINE™ VOICE
Format:Audio CD
Why oh why do the BBC do these dire adaptions? The over the top on purpose hammy acting grates after about 10 minutes. If it had been played straight it might have been quite good, instead it comes across as the direst am dram you might have to sit through at your local village hall! Mock USA accents are terible at the best of times, but the BBC seems to be stuck in a time warp when camp Batman was on teevee. I managed 33 minutes before I'd had enough! Don't bother! A missed opportunity, misses the mark, neither for kids nor for adults...this is for nobody!
