Product Description

Superman/Batman: Apocalypse (DVD/S)

A mysterious space ship from planet Krypton crashes on Earth with a beautiful girl inside and everyone wants to meet the new kid. Superman embraces the connection to his past, Batman suspects a traitor, Wonder Woman senses a kindred spirit and Darkseid desires a champion. But this feisty teen has her own ideas, none of which include a secret identity, a cape or heroics. It will take a life or death battle with Darkseid to uncover her true purpose on Earth. A dynamic voice cast – Kevin Conroy, Tim Daly, Andre Braugher and Summer Glau – highlights this DC Universe Original Animated Movie that introduces the world to the newest form of girl power!

4.0 out of 5 stars Best WB DC animated movie yet! 16 Sep 2010
Just a quick review, so apologies if it is badly written - I just finished watching this and loved it. It really is fantastic! I was impressed by 'Under the Red Hood' and its more mature style, 'Apocalypse' continues in this more style, lets hope WB keep it up.

WB has finally realised they need to spend some money on the animation and it really shows here. The animation makes 'Doomsday' animation look childish. Some of the direction is what I would expect to see in a live action movie, great camera angles etc. Many of the fights looked motion captured, there was something very fluid, realistic and believable about them.

Music wise, it is good, but nothing really memorable, you wont find yourself humming at work the next does the job and fits well.

---- Possible spoilers follow ----

Admittedly, the storyline is a little basic, but enough to keep any fan happy. It's mainly about the arrival of Kara, and is more based around Superman than Batman, though Bats is there doing his usual stuff its not really about him (or Wonder Woman).

The final battle is on the Kent farm and is somewhat unexpected, I think this battle tops off the movie almost bringing it up to 5 stars for me. I could have watched the entire battle again, tattered clothes 'S' shield showing know Kal El mean business, and Kara too! Truly the best battle in any WB movie I have seen to date.

Lets hope 'Man of Steel' in 2011 is something like this!

If you are a Batman / Superman fan then you have to see this. So far it is the best I've seen.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must-have for anyone who bought Public Enemies 22 Jan 2011
This review focuses more on the Region 2 edition of Superman/Batman Apocalypse, which was adapted from the Superman/Batman: Supergirl comic that reintroduced Supergirl into modern comics. Apocalypse scores big points from the start by bringing back veteran voice actors Kevin Conroy and Tim Daly and newcomer Summer Glau proves to be a fine casting for Kara Zor-El, convincingly portraying a confused superpowered teenager on an alien world.

The animation style and character designs reflect Michael Turner's work on the original comic and there are some amazing and brutal fights in this film and plenty of special features, including trailers for various other DC animated films. My only criticisms however are Darkseid, who just doesn't seem threatening enough as he sounds too human, and the lack of a chapter select option, meaning you have to fast forward through the film manually.

Overall however, these are minor detractions from an otherwise excellent animated film and having read the original comic, I can say it is also a faithful adaptation to the animated media. I highly recommend if you enjoyed the comic and the previous animated film Public Enemies.

5.0 out of 5 stars Supergirl 8 Oct 2011

Animation is great. It's a great nod to the original book. Great cast, good story. The fight scenes are top notch, special nod to Wonder Woman on how she uses her rope the fight scene with Granny's Harpies. The only thing I have a point with is the Kryptonian. True, we've never heard it before, But after eighty years, you'd think some one would have worked out the spoken word before now. Tim Daly just Spoke the words, but didn't know the meaning. That's also the same with Summer Glau, but this is a very small point compared to the overall presentation. A good film. Keep it up Warner Brothers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic animated tale 24 Nov 2010
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
'Superman / Batman Apocalypse' is a great addition to the new DC Animated Universe movies. After 'Doomsday', 'Public Enemies' and 'Under the Hood' we have a tale that is more in keeping with the original Richard Donner Superman movie and a little less Christopher Nolan's 'Dark Knight'.

I'm a bigger fan of Batman than Superman but this movie hit all the right notes. Having Conroy and Daly voice the Legends is always a bonus and there's a great supporting cast including Wonderwoman and if you're going to have a larger than life villian who better than Darkseid. What I really liked about this movie was that it wasn't afraid to have titanic fight sequences that were reminiscent of the Golden Age of DC Comics.

The two disc edition has bonus episodes from the the Superman Animated series and also a DC Premiere with the Green Arrow which is a fantastic short with the titular character protecting a young girl from a bunch of assassins in an airport.

You can't do wrong with 'Apocalypse' whilst we wait for 'All Star Superman' and the 'Batman - Year One' animated movies in 2011.

3.0 out of 5 stars Above average, though far below the series' best 30 Jan 2014
By Inspector Gadget VINE VOICE
With so many Warner Premier animations coming out these days it is especially hard to keep up with them all. Superman/Batman: Apocalypse follows on from their Public Enemies team-up in 2009. Supes has his name come first in the title as this is primarily his story with Batman playing sidekick.

The movie opens with a meteor splashing into Gotham Harbor and causing untold damage and misery to boat owners and businesses around the water. Batman investigates and is surprised to find naked, pretty Kara Zor-El (that would be Supergirl) has arrived on Earth with not much recollection of what happened.

Her cousin Superman takes her in and promises to teach her how to use her powers correctly on Earth. Kara just wants to be an ordinary girl and Supes is happy to spoil her. Too bad that Darkseid, in the Apokolips realm (or whatever it is) has sinister plans for her and temps her into corruption with promises of almighty power.

As soon as Bats, Supes, Wonder Woman, and that other tall girl go after her things go downhill. I suppose it's a lot like the first Thor movie in that regard (I never bothered with the second one) - the scenes set on Earth were fun and entertaining, but all of the gibberish on Asgard bored me to tears. This DC effort is no different. Watching Kara try to fit in on Earth is nice, but last third in the Apokolips realm is tedious and repetitive, and then it carries on into Smallville too. Someone smashes into a building, they hit back and someone else smashes into another building, then they hit back and the first person smashes into a building again. I'd love to see the scripts for these comic book movies, it must be the same words printed over and over.
