Product Description

Housed on a remote island, in a volcano within a volcano - the location of animated-horror comedy, SUPERJAIL! is part madhouse, part ultra-violent penitentiary. Expect gratuitous disembowelment, psychedelic sadism, and robot-related carnage. Observe from a safe distance only. Wash eyes out thoroughly after viewing.

Superjail! is one of the most bizarre animated experiences you'll see. A weird mix of 'Beavis And Butthead' meets 'Happy Tree Friends' meets 'The Beatles Yellow Submarine", the series in set in a high security jail which is located on top of a volcano which sits within another active volcano. The inmates are brutal and violent and regularly attack and murder each other and the jail is run by an insane prison warden, who like a deranged Willy Wonka has turned the jail into a place unlike any other where he uses the inmates to live out the twisted reality in his mind.
Each episode is roughly about 11 minutes long and each usually ends in a complete bloodbath, so if you're remotely squeamish you'll want to give this a miss. If you don't mind the ultra-violence and high gore levels then Superjail! is a highly imaginative and enjoyable experience.

I bought this in a shop based entirely on the now infamous acid trip sequence from 'Don't be a Negaton' and didn't expect much out of it, since then I think I have watched it enough to quote the entire series start to finish. The type of humour involved isn't to everyone's tastes and a lot of people just don't get it (lets face it you ether find a robot crushing/killing hundreds of random civilians in its pursuit to arrest one man or you don't), If you like things like Bottom, Monkey Dust, The Farside Show, some of the madder episodes of American Dad, looked up 'acid trip' on you tube more than once and laugh every time some one gets killed in a hilariously pointless way in cheap horror films you'll probably enjoy this.

Fight City! 2 May 2010
Superjail! is one of the few outstanding pieces of animation to come from the [adult swim] network in the last few years. This DVD is contains the 10 episodes from the first series (a second is planned) as well as a few extras: the pilot; animatics and a music video for the very catchy title theme.

The show revolves around a indescribably large prison, run by an exuberant Warden who is half Gene Wilder's Willy Wonka and half insane. The supporting characters include a trans-gender prison guard Alice, a tightly wound accountant Jared, a mass murdering robot Killbot, and a variety of uncouth inmates who take the stereotype criminal mind to an extreme by murdering each other at the drop of a hat. Each episode is roughly 10 minutes long and punctuated by a spectacular riot scene of some kind. The hallmark of the series is excessive violence and dark humour, but the show will often take a psychedelic turn either explicitly (episode Don't Be a Negaton), or by gently bending the laws of space and time in each episode with a pair of unexplained characters called "the Twins" who act as a foil to the Warden's plans.

Where the show really stands out is the animation (all done using flash), which is often so complex and imaginative that you can't possibly appreciate it all in one sitting, every scene is filled with background jokes or detail that put shows with larger budgets to shame. The fact that the title sequence in each episode is unique typifies the attention that goes into every 10 minutes. To a certain extent this focus makes the plotting or dialogue seem weak in some instances, but that is a minor negative compared with the rest of the show. It's also hilarious, but that goes without saying.
