Product Description

Product Description

Collected for your entertainment (and mine), you'll find several (almost) poems about various aspects of my nerdy upbringing that I use as springboards into thoughts about the nature of being an adult, a parent, a functioning member of society. If you love pop culture, this might be your jam. If you grew up in the 80s and 90s, this will make sense.

The word "poetry" is taken lightly here. Everything reads like very tiny narratives. The good news is that you'll understand it better. Plus I never say "thy" or "thine" or "thou" once in the whole thing. Oh, and none of it rhymes, unless by total happenstance and accident.

If you end up digging this, come find me on the Twitters and Google+ and the like. You'll probably get along swell with me. Wonder Twin powers... (say it out loud!).

This book is for those who know the Transformers and Battle of the Planets and Michael Morbius and Rubik's Cube and Gauntlet and all those crazy references. And it's for those who don't feel like they fit in. If that's you, you're welcome.

5.0 out of 5 stars Funny and inspiring short and easy read 14 May 2013
By R. Tubb
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I'm a fan of Chris Brogan's blogs and training products, so when he released a book of "poetry" I was intrigued...

This isn't like any poetry book I've read before (and being honest, I've not read many poetry books before!). The book is a short and easy read containing a number of funny, inspiring and at times, touching stories from Brogan's childhood.

Full of references that will make any self-respecting geek smile (anyone who grew up watching "He-Man" or reading Comic Books will have plenty to spot here) I giggled, laughed out loud and was generally cheered by reading the book.

Well worth a read!

5.0 out of 5 stars Super charming 10 April 2013
By Julien Smith - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
I love the daring that it takes to make something like this, especially from someone like Chris, who usually writes about business.

What's so charming about this book is that it's not trying to be serious, or deep, or anything. It's just a fun thing that a smart and very clever guy did.

That's kind of why it deserves attention-- for the same reason the Seth Godin action figure is great, Superheroes in the Basement is also great.

If you download this book and read it in a bakery, while eating a tart and drinking coffee, on a sunny or rainy day, it'll be even better.

Three bucks, seriously. That's cheaper than just the tart.

(Disclosure, I've written books with Chris- but not this one.)
5.0 out of 5 stars Not your ordinary Chris Brogan book 9 Jun 2013
By Todd R. Jordan - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
If you're a fan of Chris's writing on business, social media, and the like, this book isn't at all like them.

Chris takes us back to his child hood and into his dreams.
The book is poetry... or is it.

Stories from his own life were for me was like a time machine back to my own childhood.

There's a lot here for the geeks, nerds, and those that dream of being a superhero.

It's a quick read overall but you'll want to reread some of the 'poems'. There's a few nods to things you'll not want to miss.

There are no chapters. It's one continuous book with the only breaks the poems themselves.

This is a work of introspection and of inspiration. It is not a book about using Twitter, planning your business strategy, etc.

Buy this book if you're human, aren't afraid to read something other than a regular book of fiction or serious non-fiction work, and have a few minutes to spare.

Disclaimer: I know Chris personally but was neither provided a copy of this book to review, nor encouraged to do so. Purchased it myself.
5.0 out of 5 stars Fun and touching 19 May 2013
By Jason - Published on Amazon.com

I can't tell if knowing something about Chris Brogan before reading this book should be required or not in order to enjoy it fully. Knowing a little about him already, there were little pieces that I understood that I wouldn't have otherwise. But I also felt like I got a rare insight into his past that he hadn't fully revealed before.

But don't think this a heavy memoir or anything. It is full of little "oh yeah, I remember that" moments - especially if you grew up on cartoons from the 80's.

Grab this book for a fun and touching read. This is a great and refreshing way of telling some of your important moments from the past.
4.0 out of 5 stars Make time for this quick read 14 May 2013
By Michael Feeney - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
Quick and fun read. Really speaks to those of us who grew up in the 80's. Introduction is self-deprecating, cautioning not to take these "poems" too seriously; author needn't have worried. These thoughts are poems; wonderful, insightful and enjoyable insights and memories well expressed...
3.0 out of 5 stars Decent poems of growing up Chris Brogan 5 May 2013
By Len Edgerly - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
I enjoyed this collection of prose-like short poems. They show a side of this popular Internet consultant and speaker that we wouldn't otherwise know. It takes gumption to publish a book of poems. This is a worthy creation and a nice little read.
