Book Description

This is a Short Story about the realities of modern heroism. There is alot of ironic comedy and a deep message about the state of man here.

With a name like the Valiant Defender and a huge logo that says V.D. across his chest, you can imagine how Marvin Smithers is recieved when he foils a crime and becomes a national media hero.

I would offer it to you for free, but the Amazon DTP system won't let me... Thanks M.R. Mathias

4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting take on heroism 15 Jan. 2013

A short interesting read about the reality of when intentions to be helpful breaches that boundary into heroism/vigilantism depending on your point of view. Well written, with easily identifiable motivations and characters. A Good Read!

5.0 out of 5 stars They all lived unhappily ever after. 6 Mar. 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Cheeky little read. Amused me for a couple of days reading to my son. Happily he had no idea what I was going on about. It gave me a few chuckles and got him to sleep. Job done. Wish it was a bit longer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Super Enjoyable 21 Jun. 2011

This the book that tells the story I wish the Watchmen had been.

It's basically what happens when a real person tries to be a super hero. Yes, you can call it another Watchmen or Kick-Ass. But it's still original, touching and funny.

You won't find that in most stories you pay a lot more for.

cheers,
Mark

5.0 out of 5 stars Surprising 14 Aug. 2010
By Sascha von Bornheim - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Based on the preview I thought that this would be a typical Superhero fantasy... but upon buying the full version, I realized that the story features realistic characters n a real-life setting, which makes the story more believable and creates more tension. The ending is very surprising, which I appreciated because it wasn't what I had expected.

If I have a criticism, it would be that the whole thing is too short: the characters are so well done and the story so compelling that I feel that this could have been a 200-page book instead of a short story, and I hope that the author will write more stories like this one in the future!

For 99 cents, you really can't go wrong.

5.0 out of 5 stars Give It A Shot 8 Sept. 2010
By Rory Miller - Published on Amazon.com

You know that superhero story you always ment to get around to writing? The one set in the real world, the one where you point out the ridiculous nature of the superhero genre and how it really reflects a real need for good-doers in the real world but that we should be looking to real heroes (cops, firemen, teachers, and good samaritans) to help us? M.R. Mathias beat you to it.

Buy this short story. Try out the sample but remember the funny bits come after the begining, like in every good satire.
