This book is a practical overview of “superfoods”, those foods that contain high nutritional value and provide other health benefits like protecting against disease, inflammation and slowing the signs of aging. There is a brief introduction to the concept of superfoods and what they can do for you, and then more detailed information about 10 superfoods like chia seeds, quinoa, flax seed, spirulina and camu camu. For each superfood discussed, the author gives an overview of its nutritional value and then goes more specifically into its unique health benefits. At the end of each chapter there is a description of how to use each superfood. There is also a chapter on more common foods, some of which I was already eating, that are actually superfoods.
This is a really good introduction for anyone interested in improving his/her diet by adding superfoods. While it doesn't go into great detail about any one particular food, it gave me a good sense of which foods do what, how they are used, and helped me decide which to start with. As I get more into it, I may want more in depth information about the particular foods I’m eating, but this was extremely helpful to me as a beginner. Highly recommended.
