5.0 out of 5 stars Superchannel Single Review 4 Feb 2006
Format:Audio CD
Let's get this out of the way first. "Superchannel" rocks. It rocks hard. It's a sing-a-long, balls-out scorcher. It's catchy enough to be a hit single, yet weighty enough to have layers of meaning tucked just under the surface. It blasts off, out of the speakers, and never turns back. The meaty bass, substantial guitar riffs, relentless drumming, and in-your-face vocals all combine to create a sound that is both familiar and unique at the same time. However, this is no retro track. It's not like some of the recent songs by bands like The Killers that sound like micro-waved 80's left-overs, varnished with a 21st century mix. There is no nostalgia here, no anthems or flag waving. The Alarm are not harkening toward, resting on laurels, or a falling back in retreat. They have simply taken all their experience and talent and rolled it into a fantastic rock song. "Superchannel" is the first single in years (maybe since "Strength") that does justice to the name The Alarm. "45 RPM"
would have taken that honor, but for the small niggling detail that it was actually credited to The Poppyfields. This time The Alarm, the one from the modern age, come out of gates swinging for the fences, and hiding behind nothing at all. And the truth is, they have nothing to hide anyway. On a level playing field, left to their own merits, The Alarm have signaled they can make some of the best music in the world. When the album "Under Attack" comes out on Feb 20th, they will prove it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Worth your money 18 Feb 2006

Format:Audio CD
A little background first. I love the Alarm, that is the 1980-1990 Alarm. Once that ended I felt the Alarm ended. I always followed Mike's solo efforts but the Alarm had ceased to exist for me. Well, I think I'm back on board now. Superchannel is an excellent song. It's different though. Would it fit on Declartion? No. Strength? Maybe. Eye of the Hurricane? No. Change? I don't think so. But, it could have been an excellent B-side during anytime in their career.
What's it like? Well, as far as young popular bands, think Jet. This song has the same kind of musical purity as they do. No nonsense, minimal production, a driving bass line, great drumming, great guitar riff. And then it's over. A definite case of less being more.
From the samples available on their website, thealarm.com, the next great song is Exit [No Way Out]. The first thing that came to mind for me was the Sex Pistols Sub Mission, only better, more melodic.
I'm looking forward to these songs on the radio in the U.S. They deserve the airplay and hopefully Mike will be well enough to make his way to the U.S. again and find the big audience he deserves.

5.0 out of 5 stars Music the way it is meant to be 23 Feb 2006
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
Do you like hard edge guitars? Heavy bass? Drumming that drives you to hit that gas pedal just a little more? Vocals that scream "hit?" If so, then Superchannel is the way to go. It's the 1st single off of the excellent new album Under Attack and will bring The Alarm back to the forefront of music. Buy it today, you won't be disappointed.
