3.0 out of 5 stars 1986 - Supercar Finale, 25 Feb 2003
This review is from: Supercar Finale - 1985 World Rally Compilation [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This film, produced by Videovision in 1987, has action from all 13 rounds of the 1986 world rally title & results displayed on screen.
It serves as a useful reminder of the last season of Group B rally cars.
You get about 5 minutes devoted to each rally, enough to see the main participants in action & hear an outline of how the rally unfolded.
If you like Rallying you will enjoy seeing Toivonen on the ice of Monte-Carlo, Salonen in the RAC mud & Kankkunen v Alen battle for the title.
Also there is coverage of the disasters in Portugal & Corsica which led to the disbanding of Group B, including horrific footage of Santos' Ford RS200 ploughing into the Sintra crowd.
What is slightly disappointing about the film is the lack of interaction with the drivers & the team managers. Also you feel there is a need for a greater explanation of the political decisions taken by the FIA (Rallying governing body), the World Champion was appointed in a room in Paris.
Rallying must be hard to get on to the TV screen in an informative & entertaining way, the film does manage to do it.
And it is about the only recording available of the last year of the Supercars.
