4.0 out of 5 stars Different: but its still Bif, 13 Nov 2005
The initial reaction to this Bif Naked album was one of raised eyebrows - its hard not to react to the 'Gwen Stefani' element of Superbeautifulmonster.
Yet that doesn't detract from the catchy tunes, nor the typical Bif attitude to life and love songs. The production is smoother than previous albums, the songs have more depth and nuances, all laid over the clever lyrics and driving beats. Perhaps a bit more mellow than her earlier albums, this is a maturing artist who sometimes veers towards the simplistic, but never the dull.
From the opening wail of 'Abandonment', to the reflective 'Nothing Else Matters' to the seriously bizarre and original 'Ladybug Waltz', this album satisfies all cravings.

If you liked Bif's earlier music, or fancy listening to a very competent and original artist, I recommend 'superbeautifulmonster'.

5.0 out of 5 stars Living up to the excitement!, 15 Jan 2006
By H. Playford "mambohels" - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I was unbelievably excited about getting my hands on this album! Having become a Bif fan through her performance on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, her albums have been the most eagerly anticipated in my collection.
This one does not disappoint.
Bif's trademarks are her powerful, haunting voice, clever lyrics and unerring originality. This album is packed with all three.
It's impossible to assign Bif to a particular genre, and the sheer diversity of this album makes it special.
From the mellow, melody led "The World is Over" to the harder, Nickelback-esque "The Question Song" the album is full of surprises. You can hear a Gwen Stefani influence on the electronic intro to "Yeah, You" but that's as far as any similarities go. You can't compare Bif to anyone, especially not herself.
Standout track "Ladybug Waltz" hearkens back to earlier times - particularly tracks like I Bificus's "I Died" and "I Want" is slightly reminiscent of "I Love Myself Today" from Purge.
But don't expect this to sound like any of Bif's previous work - it is unmistakeably her, but an older, mellower, more mature her.
If you enjoy highly original, lyrically ingenious, powerful, alternative rock - buy this and you won't be disappointed.

4.0 out of 5 stars superbeutifulalbum, 21 Mar 2009

had this album on my ipod for just over a week now and it keeps on getting better and better, abandonmant is the perfect opener with songs like yeah you and let down providing solid listening. the cover of metallica's nothing else matters is different enough to have bif's stamp on it whilst retaining enough of the original to keep it the amazing heartfelt song it was written as. it is a very good cover. one word of warning dont drive with this album turned up. it will mean points on your licence! lol.
