Quite simply the best crochet book I have! Buy it, you won't be disappointed. I've looked through quite a few Amigurumi style pattern books and this one beats the others hands down. You can tell the author really loved making these designs. Each character is beautifully pictured and given a whimsically funny back-story that links it to some of the other designs, so the book is a pleasure to read as well as to crochet from. Everyone I've shown it to has been captivated.

The patterns include farm animals (chickens, goat, cow, etc), a couple of people, pet animals (mice, guinea pig, cat, dog, fish, etc), exotic animals (koala, emu, lion, alpaca, etc) and even a short Christmas section (reindeer, fairy, etc). There's not a single duff creation in the book, and the instructions are easy to follow. If you want to duplicate the effect achieved exactly then it's easy to get the yarns used (mostly Rowan), and the patterns are in UK English so there's no confusion over terminology.

If you're an absolute beginner you'll probably need a helping hand, but anyone who can manage plain double crochet should have no trouble, so long as you remember to use a marker for the beginning of the rounds.

This is a gem of a book. The pictures are lovely and the instructions are clear and easy to follow. The featured toys are very cute and very varied, from alpacas to spiders with " bling" and lots of cuties in between. The book is very attractive to both look at and read. My "craft wary" daughter was so taken with it that I gave her a quick lesson and in just two days she made two of the little toys much to the suprise and delight of her husband and children. Her only crochet project previously is a blanket which she started at uni. and remains lurking in a carrier bag! As her birthday is coming up a she has asked me for a copy of the book for her present which I have bought for her. From Amazon of course. It is enjoyable for practiced crochet fans and easy enough for beginniners

There is no doubt these designs are cute, well presented and gorgeous to look at. I love the characterisation of the projects. However, there is no mention of working on the right and wrong sides when doing a project. In fact, several of the designs clearly show in the photographs they have been worked on the wrong side. For example, the two little pigs heads have been done on the wrong side - you can see lines going across the stitches - but Mrs Mittens (who has the same basic pattern for the head as the pigs) is stitched on the right side. I am sure this is the reason the pigs heads look a bit misshapen compared to the neatness of Mrs Mittens. Some projects have right and wrong sides within the same animal. The main head if Pickles the Puppy is worked on the right side, but the muzzle and ears have been done on the wrong side.

Some people may not think this is too much of a problem, but working on the right side does give a neater and more consistent finish. The lack of attention to this may mean that your finished pieces come out with a different shape than those pictured in this book.

Some of the tensions in the pieces looks very lose and stuffing is very visible. This may be another reason your pieces come out looking different from the photos. Dylan's head is very loosely stitched, but his clothes are very tightly worked. If you do a consistent tension, will his clothes fit?

Despite the criticism, I do love the designs but would urge people to be aware of the right/wrong side and tension issues and adapt where necessary to achieve the shape they would like.

This book is gorgeous. All the creatures have a little quirky back story, like Alan the Lion who is in a Ska band, or the Australian bears or Melody the ballet dancing kitten who is in love with the afore mentioned Alan! The stitches are pretty easy and the creations come to life quickly. I love this book and would recommend it to any crocheter or would-be crocheter.

This is a great little cute book! there isn't one pattern I wouldn't have a go at! a snail, lion, octopus, chicks, eggs, teddies, spider, alien, pigs, hens, and people! so many more great things! the best thing about this book though is they all have a little description of the characters so they have a personality as well as being ultra cute!

When I got this book I was a beginner, having never really done it before. The patterns were really easy to follow (with a little help understanding it from my mum) and there are even some guides on how to crochet at the back which help! (not confusing like some).

I would recommend this book to beginners and experienced people as the toys are just so cute!

HAVE FUN!

Very clear, well set out and with good illustrations too. I made several of the cuties within a week of receiving the book.Probably best suited to the more experienced crochet worker. June B.

Gorgeous book with clear instructions, includes patterns for a wide range of animals including a dolphin, long haired lama, guinea pig, lion, all very cute. Also a pattern to make the author, Nikki Trench herself! Love the description of each animal which gives it real character.
