Product Description

Review

[This is] a well-established art form and it's very popular so, is this book any good and will it help the budding practitioner of the style? Well, yes and yes. Joanna gives you forty different demonstrations of both children and animals. Each is presented in a double-page spread with the outline shapes and a series of development drawings that show you the build-up as well as a variety of poses and facial expressions. It's neatly done without over-complication and, if this is what you aspire to draw, there's no doubt this forms an excellent primer. --Artbookreview.net

If children are a part of your llife, why not amaze them by drawing these appealing figures and animals. Learn the basic styling and simple tricks you need to create this ultra-cute world. Each of the 30 step-by-step sequences includes a basic drawing you can copy, scan or trace so that even the complete beginner can get started right away. --Machine Knitting Monthly

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent! 1 July 2011
Format:Paperback
This book is a must-buy for all aspiring Manga artists.

In addition to giving detailed instructions concerning facial expressions, body postures and movement, it also provides a lot of background on the various techniques that need to be mastered. The author is particularly generous in providing secrets of the trade that have obviously taken years of meticulous research and this is exactly what has been missing from less engaging Manga books in the past.

I've only had the book a short time and it's already improved my style greatly, in addition to giving me a much-needed inspirational boost. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking to hone their skills, or even to those who are just starting out - as the basics are covered in great detail as well. Even if you're not an artist yourself and you just have an interest in the Manga scene, this book makes a great encyclopedic source of reference.

4.0 out of 5 stars manga art 13 Jun 2011
By K. Platt TOP 50 REVIEWER
Format:Paperback
I'm not a Manga girl, but if you are you will appreciate that this book has all the basic styling and much more besides. The basic sequences include line work and facial expressions, clothes and poses (useful for any character drawing). Apart from male and female figures this book includes a number of animals that are really cute - I love the koala and squirrel. In all, you'll find 40 characters. This review first appeared on Karen Platt's book review website.

5.0 out of 5 stars Kids Loved it !! 17 May 2012

We saw this book in craft store and my daughter loved it but due to the extreme cost I didn't want her to spend her entire allowance on the book. I'm so pleased that we were able to find it for a less expensive price and learn a valuable lesson as well.
