The Ultimate Sculpting Compound!

A Favorite with Doll Makers

SUPER SCULPEY - Extra-Firm Gray Sculpting Compound - Super Sculpey FIRM - 453.6 gr (1 lb.) - SS1

Super Sculpey FIRM :
Many Sculptors desire an extra firm clay that can be "carved" and used for projects that require fine details. Super Sculpey FIRM is the extra firm sculpting clay that is gray in color, allowing sculptors to create fine details and photographers to catch these fine points on film. Unique in both form and color, this new sculpting clay brings creative options to the sculpting world.

History In response to the popularity of Sculpey, Super Sculpey was formulated. Users required a clay of greater tensile strength and Super Sculpey was the answer.

Characteristics
In color, Super Sculpey is a translucent pink-beige only. Like Sculpey, Super Sculpey is an easy to condition polymer requiring minimal hand kneading or rolling through a pasta machine to prepare for use. It features fine tooling and detailing characteristics, and does not "fill in" after tooling. If you opt to paint your cured piece, we recommend acrylic paint or the application of water based glaze prior

5.0 out of 5 stars The usual excellence 27 Feb 2014

What can you say? It's Sculpey and it's one of those 'does-what-it-says-on-the-tin' items. If you're not familiar with sculpey, it comes in different forms - soft or hard and the hard is much harder than Fimo but in other respects similar to use: it doesn't have the same colour range, it tends to come in pink or grey but colours are available too. The Sculpey organisation treats things in a different way because it's meant to be a sculpture student product though it's quite capable of providing a good medium for serious sculpture... so their support info isn't aimed at a toy and trinket-making audience, but rather more towards artists, both professional and amateur. It's good stuff. The hard version takes a bit more kneading and then it's perfectly workable. It cooks in an oven the way FIMO does.

This clay has allowed me to get back into sculpting again. No mess, no drying out, great for fine detail and can be baked. Just fantastic.

4.0 out of 5 stars Mixed feelings towards it 15 Oct 2013

When i got the Sculpey it was very, very dried out. Rock hard. Almost as hard as a brick. I had to soften it down and the process is not anywhere near easy on the hands and it is quite time consuming, due to the fact that i don't own a pasta machine. But after softening it with some oil i can say i'm pretty pleased with it. Holds details exceptionally and rakes do wonders with it. But it is also sort of crumbly when smoothing it down with my fingers. I recommend a 50/50 mix with Super Sculpey Living Doll. This way it's softer but still hard enough to get good detail. But even as is i can say it's a very good sculpting material. As long as it's not dried out to begin with.

5.0 out of 5 stars for detail sculpting 4 Dec 2009

I am happy with this product, it is harder than super sculpey with a better gray color for the detection of desired form in my work, specifically it is superior to super sculpey for detailed work, but I still like super sculpey for general shaping. It also does not brown or change colors when slightly over cooked like super sculpey can. The gray color keeps true.
It can be sanded, carved and/or painted after baking as well.
To avoid crumbling, hold and press in your hands for a few seconds or a minute before adding to your sculpture.

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT sculpting clay! 26 Jan 2011

Durability: 5.0 out of 5 stars    Educational: 4.0 out of 5 stars    Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
This clay is awesome for small-scale sculpting. I use it mainly for making 54 mm figurines but it has great potential for larger sculpts as well, though you might want an armature as the clay is fairly oily and will deform easily.

Follow the instructions for baking it on the box and you should be fine, though on some ovens I've found I needed to leave stuff in longer than suggested. For the most part though the heat will not deform the sculpt, even if over-cooked, which makes it great for small precise pieces.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent product.... 8 Jan 2009
By S. Halvarson - Published on Amazon.com
I have actually had nothing but great success from this product. I have made many items from it and the level of detail you can get is excellent. The problem with it crumbling well I just mix the heck out of it and it seems to soften up enough to get the crumbling problem to go away.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great version of Sculpey 26 Jan 2013

I am going to stick with this version of Sculpey from now on. It is the exact consistency and firmness for small scale projects. It smooths out easily. It can be sanded after baking.for a very smooth surface, especially if you use 600-1000 grit sandpaper.

It's hard to knead at first, but I was surprised how solid it was after baking. Good stuff here guys.
