Manufacturer's Description

A New Look at Mario as He Jumps into 3D

Past Mario™ games have let the blue-suspendered hero roam around fully rendered 3D landscapes. Now, for the first time, players can see true depth of their environment without the need for special glasses. Super Mario™ is a 3D evolution of classic Mario platforming featuring new level designs and challenges.

3D visuals make it easier for players to judge the depths and distances in their environments. Players can more accurately judge the jump to the next platform or how far Mario is from a question block.

Features:

  • New and familiar abilities add unique game-play strategies to the adventure. Mario can perform a rolling somersault attack or run fast with a dash move. Or, as Tanooki Mario, he can use his tail to hover, perform floating jumps or attacks.
  • The Circle Pad gives players complete control to confidently move Mario through fun and challenging environments.
  • New enemies include Goombas with tails, tall stacks of Goombas and a Piranha Plant that spits ink to obscure a player’s view.

Product Description

Please note a 3DS console is required to play

Mario veterans will have played a 3D Mario game before, but not like this!

Super Mario sees Mario travel into a 3D world where, for the first time, you can see the depth of the land, rather than a rendered 3D game where depth perception can be tricky!

Pulling from Mario games of yesteryear, Super Mario exclusively for the Nintendo 3DS will feature abilities that Mario fans have been asking for to make a return such as the Tanooki tail, giving Mario the ability to hover, glide and attack.

Mario will also gain some new moves in Super Mario to add to his impressive repertoire such as the Somersault attack and the ability to run faster with the dash move.

  • Circle pad controls giving you more fluid and accurate controls as you adventure into the 3D world of Super Mario
  • All-new enemies will try to hamper Mario including Goombas with Tails, stacks of Goombas and a new Piranha Plant that spits ink at the camera
  • New moves and some old ones to despatch the latest bunch of Goomba goons that really make Mario, Super Mario!
  • Better depth and distance perception thanks to the glasses free 3D of the Nintendo 3DS in Mario's all-new adventure!

Fun:
I received this today and have not been able to out it down! This game is stunning to look at, with every little bit of the worlds highly detailed and fun in their own ways.
You have different power ups to aid Mario in his quest to once again, save Peach. These include a Tanooki Suit, Boomerang Flower and more!
The levels are quite big and you can wander off the trail to see what might be hiding in a corner(ranging from star medals to an extra life) so you can take your time going through each level. Yes, you do have a timer but you do come across the odd time extender(100 extra seconds) so you have more than enough time to check out the level as much as you like.
The music is typical Mario, flawless and perfect, very happy and uplifting.
I will play this time and time again, it's a real treat. Plus this game has been designed with the 3D to really help in levels, sometimes it's the difference between making a jump, and falling down a hole!
If you are looking for the perfect 3DS game, this is it! Well done, Nintendo!

Fun:
Super Mario 3D Land (Nintendo 3DS)

After purchasing this game I began playing it as soon as I got it.
The game starts slow and relatively easy and doesn't become anywhere near difficult until the last few levels and the end boss.
It is easy for us to say that this game isn't exactly aimed at a mature-teenage audience and is more aimed at children and young teens.
However any old school Mario fan should be able to play this game with some competition and not have it completed the same day after purchase.
Though it's not all bad news of course as the game features a few classic takes on the old Mario and involves some interesting new ones too!
This game takes full control over the 3DS's 3D hardware and really makes an appealing to look at game!
Unfortunately the game lacks length as it is a relatively short game due partly to its easy-run-through game play style with a seemingly struggle-free difficulty.
It seems almost as if they concentrated more on the 3D and visual graphics of the game as opposed to the game play and the difficulty, which most serious players of any game would know that the most appealing thing in a game is its story and game play and the graphics are just a bonus, some hit games definitely prove this point. (Doom, Minecraft, Wolfenstein, Sonic, Pokémon, Pacman, Space Invaders, so on and so forth)

The game seems to struggle with creating a gradual increase on the difficulty level as you progress through the game as it starts rather easy and that really doesn't seem to change until the final few stages of the last world (World 8) where the game almost abruptly becomes rather difficult in comparison to the other worlds. With no gradual increase in the difficulty it kind of throws you of the swing of things and almost leaves you somewhat struggling until you finally get back into the use of the sudden difficulty change.

Summary:

Pros -
Use of 3D Graphics.
Crisp and clean detail with impressive visual graphics.
Easy to play for the younger players.

Cons -
Short story and easy to complete.
Run-through styled game play which seems almost effortless for completing many of the stages.
No additional features such as mini-games like featured in previous titles.
No multi-player support.

Overall, I am unhappy and dissatisfied with this product.

Jake.

Fun:
The latest iteration in the Mario franchise is an excellent one, the first original handheld Mario platformer to make the transition to 3D; not only in the sense that it makes use of the Nintendo 3DS' stereoscopic 3D but also in the sense of it being a 3D platformer in the style of Super Mario 64 and the Super Mario Galaxy games rather than the traditional 'two-dimensional' side-scrolling mario games like the original NES games and New Super Mario Bros on the Nintendo DS.

It's clear that Nintendo have learnt the lessons of those excellent earlier games and applied them to this one, the levels are brilliantly designed and great fun to play. The early levels are perhaps a bit easier than previous Mario games, meaning that even young children should be able to make a respectable amount of progress, though the challenge starts to increase notably as you reach the final levels and even more when you unlock the 'special' levels. Further challenge is added when you start to collect the three hidden star coins in each level (a necessity if you want to unlock some of the special levels).

The game makes up for its gentle learning curve through sheer amount of content (by my count there are 99 levels, excluding the mini 'mystery block' rooms). The game also makes very nice use of the 3DS' streetpass features; If you have your 3DS on you and walk near another 3DS owner who owns the game their Mii will appear in your game and set up helpful mushroom houses or mystery blocks. You'll also receive their best times for the levels that they've completed. Trying to beat the times of the various 3DS owners that I'd walked past through the course of a day certainly added to the longevity of the game for me.

All in all this is one of the best 3DS titles currently available and along with Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars (Nintendo 3DS) is probably the game that I've put the most one-player time into. I wholeheartedly recommend it. Super Mario 3D Land achieves the remarkable feat of being accessible enough for young kids and challenging enough for seasoned Mario players. Definitely worth your while.
