Formed in 1969,Mountain were led by the colossal talents of Leslie West,a rather large chap himself. This budget priced compact disc serves as an excellent introduction to the uninitiated. From the opening track Mississipi Queen, one of their biggest stateside hits, this disc truely rocks with a capital R .There is superb cover of Theme From An Imaginary Western,a Jack Bruce number, which so impressed him that he later joined the band , remember (West,Bruce & Laing). The Collection also includes Nantucket Sleighride, a wonderful rock ballad that many will recall was used as the theme to ITV's current affairs programme 'The World At One.' Super Hits contains ten of the best tracks from Mountain's back catalogue .Go on treat youself, give it a listen but beware Mountain are certain to cause an avalanche.

Yes, I humbly stand corrected! I meant the ITV Sunday lunchtime 'Weekend World' rather than the definitely wrong 'World at One'(BBC R4).
Interestingly, a while back I did actually contact Granada, the producers of the late 'World in Action', to find out about that wonderful piece of music, and to see if it is available commercially, perhaps even on one of those TV theme compilation CDs.
Granada told me that is actually called "Jam for a World in Action", by a musician whose name I forget, but definitely not Mountain (Jonathan something ? I think).
It is not available, nor did Granada anticipate releasing it in the foreseeable future.
'World in Action' - wonderful programme, wonderful music. Both sunk without trace.

Contrary to JW Mather's correction, Mountain's 'Nantucket Sleighride' was NOT used as the theme music for the Granada TV show 'World In Action'. The television programme in question was in fact 'Weekend World', produced by LWT in the 1970s & 80s. This heavyweight political analysis show aired at midday on Sunday and was presented initially by Peter Jay and then by former Labour MP Brian Walden. I believe that 'World In Action' did use a Mountain track, but it wasn't 'Nantucket Sleighride'.

Great Value 19 April 2002
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
For anyone seeking a good cross-section of Mountain's best work at a bargain price, this disc is a fine choice. Vastly superior to the hackneyed "Extended Versions" (a hodgepodge of sloppy and very poorly edited live performances), this one delivers a nice sampler of Mountain's best studio work. The track selection is quite good, including "Blood of the Sun", from Leslie West's "Mountain" solo album (produced by Felix Pappalardi), which led to the formation of the band, as well as highlights from the band's heyday. This disc is a good pick for anyone, showing the band at their best, and delivering good music at an exceptional price. Highly recommended.

Excellent Disc, Great Price 24 Dec. 2002
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
I concur with the previous reviewer. This disc features the best of Mountain's studio work, the the added bonus of "Blood of the Sun" from Leslie West's excellent solo album "Mountain", which was produced by Felix Pappalardi; this led to the long and artistically fruitful collaboration between Leslie and Felix, which lasted until Felix's untimely death. This set is an excellent choice for any Mountain fan, and the bargain price makes it even better. Highly recommended.
