How to use coaching to improve your work and personal life

Product Description

Super Coaching is for anyone wanting to succeed in a frenetic and unpredictable world. Coaching is an extremely successful new trend: a coach is a cross between a psycho-analyst and personal trainer, someone who is there to motivate and inspire you to work things out for yourself. This book means that you don't have to find your own personal coach - everything you need to know is here. Getting the job done is no longer good enough: relationships, whether with colleagues, customers, friends and family, are our greatest asset and the key to career success and personal happiness. Ben Renshaw's many media credits include relationship coach for C4's award-winning series Perfect Match. Graham Alexander is the founder of business coaching in Europe with just under 20 years' experience in the field. Together they make a unique team, showing you how to follow coaching principles to achieve everything you want in a career and life.

the Missing Ingredient for high performance

I have a slight knowledge of coaching as I have a life coach who I used to consult once a month for the last few years now I am down to once every six months. i get interesting reactions from the moronic and ill informed. What you pay money to just talk to someone I would do that for you. Most people I would pay good money not to talk to.

Our culture is where we now relentlessly focus on the task and people claim they are permanently busy so conversations are limited and as result people are undervalued which affects performance.

One managing director had feedback they he did not talk to anyone and as a result his leadership style was shown as weak . He was advised to talk to people and and strike up conversations with the staff.

One of the most important aspects of coaching is being non judgemental. This is a difficult skill because we have learnt from a command and control background. We go to school or work and were told what to do and how to do it. Things have now changed whereby we are supposed to learn the answer by questioning ourselves and as a result we own the problem and therefore the solution.

These are difficult concepts to take on board because in the past we did not have to think about things we just did as we were told

If we did not we were criticised. Now we should receive non judgemental feedback

This moves us on to another important aspect which is attitudes. Again our old attitude was just do the job as we were told. Now we have to question how and when we do the job. Attitudes are more important than facts. As a result we should develop an attitude of optimism openness and resilience .

There is a wealth of information in this book and if I have a criticism there is far too much to take in at one sitting. It is a book that you have to revisit many times.

Also it lacks an index. Looks boys with computers it is very easy to do. If it is a big problem give me a call and I will produce one for you.

Each chapter has a summary which is very helpful In the chapter on how to connect which I would have thought is most people's problem and they saying choosing a coach requires both parties to resonate with each other which is another way of saying the coach has to have a like ability factor.

In super doing the optimistic mental state for coaching is achieved by focusing attention and relaxed concentration along with valuable questions. It also emphasises listening and paraphrasing skills.

The GROW model stands for Goal Reality Options Wrap up, a handy acronym.

I have gained a lot by coaching as it is about goal setting and achieving them yourself. it is not imposed upon you but you feel an obligation to another person who will not judge you if you do not make it., The only person who will judge your results its yourself.

I am sure coaching is like hypnosis you can do it on yourself but works better if someone else does it to you. The morons who think it is a joke admit it is OK for sportsmen and women so why should it not work in buiness. it does work. This is a good starting place to read about it but ultimately you need a coach or to coach someone else.

A very full read and should be revisited.

Spot On! 16 April 2009
Format:Paperback
This book is simple, straight to the point, no mess, no fuss, just what you need! I have had to order a second copy as my first one is virtually worn out with the amount of times I've gone back to it and lent it out. It's great as a reference book with sound ideas. As you can guess, I love this book and always recommend it when asked 'for a book on coaching'.
